第一节
Dear Mr. Smith,
On behalf of the whole class, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your wonderful teaching over the years. As you prepare to retire and return home, we have prepared a small gift as a token of our appreciation and fond memories.
I will always remember the time when I failed an important exam and felt completely discouraged. You gently patted my shoulder and said, “Every setback is a step forward.” Those words lifted my spirits and taught me the value of resilience. Since then, I have learned to face challenges with a stronger heart.
Thank you for inspiring us not only in English but also in life. We wish you a joyful retirement, good health, and many wonderful moments ahead with your family.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节:
Several minutes passed, but no help came. The air in the lift grew heavy and warm. Mrs. Lim’s breathing became more labored, her face pale with fear. I tried to stay calm, continuing to press the alarm bell and speaking to her in a steady voice about simple, happy things—like the flowers she loved. I asked about her grandson, and she whispered a few words, her grip on my arm tightening. Though my own heart raced, I kept reassuring her. Just as silence began to feel suffocating, a faint sound—voices—echoed from somewhere outside the lift. A flicker of hope broke through the dread.
Bang! My hopes were lifted when I heard the firefighters on the other side of the lift door. “Is anyone inside ” a clear voice called out. “Yes! We’re here!” I shouted back. Soon, the sound of tools working and light slicing through the darkness meant rescue was near. Strong hands helped us out onto the solid floor. Paramedics quickly attended to Mrs. Lim. As she was taken aside, she looked back and softly said, “Thank you, dear.” That ordinary, uneventful day had turned into a profound lesson in courage and human connection, one I would carry long after the fear had faded.

Text 10
China's first animated feature film, Princess Iron Fan, was released only four years after Walt Disney released the world's first animated feature, Snow White in 1937. During themid-20th century, China's golden age of animation resulted in a series of hits and raised the prospect that the country could become a creative animation powerhouse. And the animation Ne Zha in2019has proved this thought to be true. Since then, with many tech companies investing in the sector, Chinese animation studios are developing rapidly. A growing talent pool of artists and technologists, and the new 3D modeling capabilities are letting them produce work as complex as that from Disney and Pixar. I personally support the studio Light Chaser Animation, since they've produced high-quality films adapted from different Chinese folktales. And I've taken my students to see its newly released film, Chang An, which has been widely praised with educational significance. Now, the main problem of Chinese animation seems to be the method of telling mysterious stories to audiences around the world, since it's not easy to explain the backgrounds and meaningful stories in a foreign language. Yet, we all have faith that Chinese animation has a bright future.2025-2026学年度第一学期月考2

If you have ever been disappointed because you don’t have a good gardener, the clever robot may one day become the helper of your indoor plants.
The Hexa Plant is a six-legged robot that has been specially made to care for the potted (盆栽的) plant that it carries on top of its head. Using light and heat sensors (传感器), the robot has the ability to carry its plant in and out of the daylight. If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa will walk into the sunlight; and if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa will go back into the area that obstructs direct light. The Hexa Plant will even do a little dance when it senses that the plant needs to be watered to warn its owner.
The robot was developed by Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead Sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014. “Plants only receive an action without responding,” Sun Tianqi wrote in a blog post. “Whether they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they haven’t received enough sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them.”
According to Sun Tianqi, for billions of years, plants have never experienced movement of any kind, not even the simplest movement. In their whole lives, they stick to where they were born. Sun Tianqi continued, “Do they want to break their own settings or have a tendency (趋向) towards this I do not know the answer, but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can experience the move. ”
The Hexa Plant model robots are not for sale, though Vincross does sell a Hexa robot model. It is said that in the near future the robots can open up a new market to watch over our household plants.
24. What can we learn about the Hexa Plant
A. It helps indoor plants get proper sunlight.
B. It waters the plants through dancing.
C. It helps people do overall gardening.
D. It carries the potted plant with its hands.
25. What does the underlined word “obstructs” mean in paragraph 2
A. Hides. B. Casts. C. Blocks. D. Receives.
26. What does the author try to show through Paragraph 3
A. The way plants spend their whole lives.
B. The common way people deal with plants.
C. The difference between plants and humans.
D. The cause of making the indoor plants’ helper.
27. What does Sun Tianqi try to do using this technology
A. To develop gardening skills. B. To draw people’s attention to plants.
C. To make plants experience move. D. To study the living conditions of plants.
C
Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer our question, we need to ask a further question: What is the essence of our humanity For the sake of simplicity, people consider two distinctly different views of humanity. The first view involves dominance and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness, Droll (1984) made the interesting claim that humans’ essential nature is more aggressive than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are compromising their well-being as they offer mercy to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view involves the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans. Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings, we need both to receive love from and offer love to others. Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart. Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery (奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies, is the decreasing of hatred and the restoration of harmony. Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to the extent the people from whom you are estranged (不和的) accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments. Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a Classical philosophical perspective, that of Aristotle, we see the distinction between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capacity to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual appropriation in conflict situations, develops with practice.
28. What is Droll’ s idea about forgiveness
A. People should offer mercy to others.
B. Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
C. Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
D. People who forgive can have their own welfare affected.
29. What does the example in paragraph 2 illustrate
A. To forgive is to love. B. To dominate is to harm.
C. To fight is to grow. D. To give is to receive.
30. What is the writer’s attitude toward forgiveness
A. Favorable. B. Reserved.
C. Objective. D. Skeptical.
31. What is message of the last paragraph
A. Forgiveness is in our nature. B. Forgiveness grows with time.
C. It takes practice to forgive. D. Actuality is based on potentiality.
D
It's commonly acknowledged that our lives are ruled by algorithms(算法), but have we really collectively understood how they have transformed our culture and personality
In Filterworld: How algorithms flattened culture, Kyle Chayka argues convincingly that the rise of algorithm-driven feeds, used everywhere online from Instagram to Spotify, has led to a more uniform culture. Our tastes and desires increasingly don't belong to us, but to algorithms that are designed to keep people engaged at all costs. If the collection of our tastes truly shapes our entire personality, then this loss is more psychologically damaging than it first appears. Aimlessly scrolling(滚屏) through Netflix or TikTok may seem harmless, but over days, months or years, we lose touch with what we like and enjoy.
Taste-making algorithms are inescapable. Chayka shows this by working through all corners of life: what we wear((TikTok), where we eat(Google Maps), music we listen to(Spotify), even who we date or marry(Tinder). This universe of algorithm-driven decisions has society-wide implications: “It extends to influence our physical spaces, our cities, and the routes we move through…flattening them in turn.” No one gets out of the Filterworld untouched.
If you’re lucky enough not to need any sort of algorithm-based system for your work, then you have the option to step back from algorithms for a while. But if your friend suggests a film recommended on X/Twitter or you feel the need to buy those shoes suddenly everyone has started wearing after social media advertisements, what are you to do It all feels fruitless.
This Filterworld may be inescapable, but there is hope. You can start by engaging more with the media you do choose to consume. This could mean reading up about a film you watched or paying artists you like directly. Even the thoughtful act of recommending an album(专辑) to a friend is more rewarding than a random TikTok feed. As Chayka says, resistance to algorithms “requires an act of willpower, a choice to move through the world in a different way.”
32. What is Kyle Chayka’s opinion on algorithms
A. They improve our tastes. B. They make our culture more alike.
C. They help to identify our personality. D. They contribute to psychological problems.
33. What does the underlined part in paragraph 3 refer to
A. The society with advanced technology.
B. The world without social media platforms.
C. The network of algorithm-driven decisions.
D. The community free from algorithmic influence.
34. Which of the following is a way to resist the impact of algorithms
A. Limiting the use of social media platforms.
B. Making choices based on friends’ suggestions.
C. Getting more involved with the selected media.
D. Disconnecting from social media advertisements.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Algorithms: Cultural Takeover B. The Secret of Algorithms
C. Social Media: Cultural Messenger D. The Rise of Digital Platforms
第二节:(共5小题;每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Secret codes (密码) keep messages private. Banks, companies, and government agencies use secret codes in doing business, especially when information is sent by computer.
People have used secret codes for thousands of years. 36 Code breaking never lags (落后) far behind code making. The science of creating and reading coded messages is called cryptography.
There are three main types of cryptography. 37 For example, the first letters of “My elephant eats too many eels” spell out the hidden message “Meet me.”
38 You might represent each letter with a number, for example. Let’s number the letters of the alphabet, in order, from 1 to 26. If we substitute a number for each letter, the message “Meet me” would read “135 520 135.”
A code uses symbols to replace words, phrases, or sentences. To read the message of a real code, you must have a code book. 39 For example, “bridge” might stand for “meet” and “out” might stand for “me.” The message “Bridge out” would actually mean “Meet me.” 40 However, it is also hard to keep a code book secret for long. So codes must be changed frequently.
A. It is very hard to break a code without the code book.
B. In any language, some letters are used more than others.
C. Only people who know the keyword can read the message.
D. As long as there have been codes, people have tried to break them.
E. You can hide a message by having the first letters of each word spell it out.
F. With a code book, you might write down words that would stand for other words.
G. Another way to hide a message is to use symbols to stand for specific letters of the alphabet.

When we were finally dismissed from the last class of the day, the students streamed out of the classrooms. It was another boring day after school. I dragged my feet home as I sighed. Yet another uneventful day, I thought. Little did I know that the day would take a turn for the worse.
The lift lobby(电梯间)of my flat was old and dirty. The walls, which were painted white, had been dirtied over many years. I reached my flat’s lobby, and pressed the lift button and went in. Just then, Mrs Lim, my elderly neighbour, hobbled(蹒跚)in. She looked ancient with tissue paper white hair, wearing a faded old-fashioned dress. I held the lift door open, flashing a friendly smile, and politely greeted her. I asked her how she felt that day and pressed the buttons. She thanked me for being so polite, then we were silent for the rest of the ride.
The lift fell down increasingly fast. There were loud clanking sounds here and there while the lift grew slower and slower. My heart beat hard and fast as my hands turned cold and wet with sweat. Unfortunately, the lift came to an abrupt stop at the fifth floor. I pressed the buttons hard several times, but it was of no help. The lights on the buttons had gone out. It soon dawned on me that we were trapped. An icy fear crept up my spine. Mrs Lim was hysterical(歇斯底里).
“We will never get out!” she cried with her face pale. It had become a colourless mask. I had no time to lose. I pressed the bell in the lift immediately. The sound was surely deafening, but what other choice did I have Mrs Lim burst into tears. I tried my very best to comfort her, telling her that everything would be all right and that we needed to find out how to get out safely.
