A new US law on plastic was passed thanks to a girl’s hard work.
In January, a new law was passed in Colorado, the US. It is called the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act. This law stops the use of styrofoam containers(聚苯乙烯泡沫塑料容器)and single-use plastic bags. Madhvi Chittoor, a Grade 8 student, worked on this for seven years.
When Chittoor was 5 years old, she watched the documentary Midway: A Plastic Island. It shows a far-away Pacific island filled with rubbish washed up from around the world. After she saw the island’s seabirds and fish eating plastic, she knew something needed to change.
“I cried that night,” Chittoor, now 13, said to PEOPLE, “and I told my mom, ‘I really want to do something about this’.”
Since then, she has tried her best to show people the bad sides of plastic pollution and to push the government to create laws that stop the use of plastic.
She published(出版)a children’s book called Is Plastic My Food and has even met people like Vice-President(副总统)Kamala Harris and others.
“I spoke with so many business owners and nearly 30 mayors(市长)all over Colorado, even in faraway areas,” said Chittoor. “And they all supported it. I was really excited and happy when the law was passed.”
She is now helping lawmakers stop the use of “forever chemicals(化学物质)” in things like plastic grass. She will continue on the long road to fight against plastic pollution.
“Adults are going along as though it’s business as usual,” said Chittoor, explaining what drives her. “But children are the ones who are going to take over(接管)this planet.”

Is it true that plants release(释放)CO during the night and that I should not have one in my bedroom
You are correct. Plants do release CO at night, although they also release CO during the day.
This is a part of the breathing process! First, you should know that during the day, when there is enough sunlight, plants run a process called photosynthesis(光合作用). This is where they use CO , water and sunlight to produce sugar to be used as food.
To use the sugar that plants make through photosynthesis, they need to change the sugar into energy. This process is called breathing. Breathing releases energy from the plant’s sugar, and as a part of this process the plant releases CO and water. So this is where the CO comes from.
Unlike photosynthesis which can only be carried out in the green parts of the plant, like the leaves and stems(茎), breathing can go throughout the plant. It is also a process that is happening all of the time, during both the day and the night! Please do not worry, although plants are in the room. Humans also release CO when we breathe out. One plant is not going to release as much CO as one sleeping person. If we can safely share a room with our partners, we can surely share a room with our plants!
Plants are really good for our health. It has been shown that being with nature can reduce negative(负面的)feelings and increase positive(积极的)feelings. Caring for plants can be very relaxing and it can be an experience of success to see something that you look after grow. Because of that, I’d like you to have one in your bedroom.

One possible version:
Lucky Money
Lucky Money is a red envelope with money inside. It is a traditional gift during the Spring Festival in Chinese culture. It contains money and carries good wishes. People think it’s a great way to show love and blessings, especially for kids. Some people think it’s nice because it brings good luck.
Some people think children can spend the money freely because it’s their own. Some people think the lucky money should be held by parents because children are too young to spend money properly.
In my opinion, middle school students can keep the money by themselves after discussing how to use it. We can buy books that we like and learn something new, put the money in the bank for later use or help others.
Remember, the money in the red envelope is a gift with blessings. Use it to do things that make you happy and are useful!
