The UK's national parks are known for their wonderful mountains, forests, lakes and coasts. In UK law they have specific purposes, such as protecting nature. The authorities have to consider these purposes when they are deciding where to create a new national park. Now, plans from the UK, Welsh and Scottish governments suggest setting up three more. Not everyone thinks national parks are a good idea, though. Some people say they attract too many visitors, who do more harm than good. Others say all the UK's countryside should be protected. Do we need moro national parks
Some people believe that national parks are good for nature. They are full of beautiful scenery(风景) and—— more importantly— give protection to plants and animals. Green spaces are also very important in fighting climate change because plants and trees take polluting gases.More national parks mean more protected nature. National parks are of great importance in the day- to- day lives of people, too. They attract tourists who support many businesses, including restaurants, hotels and activity centres. Also, having more green areas gives more people a chance to get out into nature. In fact, there are lots of studies that have shown spending time in the natural world is good for people's mental and physical health.
However, others think national parks are not as environmentally friendly as they seem. They attract lots of tourists but these visitors often harm the environment by dropping litter, disturbing(惊扰) wildlife and travelling in polluting cars. Also, national parks drive up the cost of buying or renting(出租) housing in nearby areas. Homes in the area are often bought by rich people from far away who want to use them just for holidays, instead of living there all the ti ne.This means fewer people live in the area and businesses find it hard to survive. Besides, why do we need to create national parks in order to look after nature We should be protecting all our green spaces.

The idea that eating cocoa- rich(富含可可粉的), dark chocolate may offer health benefits is not new. Now, a new study finds people who have a habit of eating a little dark chocolate——about 28g per day—— have a 21% lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes(a medical condition in which someone has too much sugar in their blood), compared to people who don't eat it.
Researchers studied data from about 192,000 adults who completed diet surveys over many years—— including how much and what type of chocolate they ate—— as part of their long-term research. They found that people who ate milk chocolate, which has more sugar and less cocoa, had no reduction in diabetes risk. And, over the course of the study, milk chocolate eaters tended to put on weight, which contributes to the risk of diabetes. However, eating dark chocolate was not connected with weight increase.
Dark chocolate typically contains higher levels of cocoa, compared to milk chocolate. And researchers take interest in learning more about specific elements found in cocoa, including epicatechins(表儿茶素),“There have been a number of studies that have suggested that foods that are high in epicatechins have benefits for fatness, and for Type 2 diabetes,” says a researcher, who is not surprised by the findings of the new study.
However, one thing we should know is that people who eat dark chocolate may have other healthy habits, so it's possible that the reduced risk of diabetes can be explained by the dark chocolate lovers' healthier diets. And another reminder: Don't eat too much!“It wasn't huge amounts of dark chocolate the individuals in the study were eating,” he says. At about 28g a
day, people seemed to strike the balance(达到平衡) between getting the benefits of the dark chocolate, without the risk of overeating.
12. According to the new study, what might lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
A. Drinking much milk. B. Taking food with no cocoa.
C. Keeping sugary diets. D. Eating a little dark chocolate.
13. How did the researchers get the data in paragraph 2
A. By doing surveys. B. By referring to a case.
C. By doing lab experiments. D. By turning to a dictionary.
14. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The cause of fatness. B. Healthy elements in cocoa.
C. The danger of Type 2 diabetes. D. High levels of milk in chocolate.
15. Which section of a magazine is the text probably taken from
A. Sports. B. Arts. C. Health. D. History.

第三部分写作
Dear Jack,
How are you I'm writing to tell you about a meaningful activity I attended last week. It was an ' upcycling" event organized by our school, where we transformed old items into something new and useful. Some students made backpacks out of old clothes, while others crafted toys from old newspapers. I also joined in and created a beautiful handbag using an oldT-shirt. I really enjoyed the process and felt a great sense of achievement when I finished it.
I think this activity is not only fun but also environmentally friendly. It helps us reduce waste and encourages creativity. I believe we can all make a difference by reusing and recycling things in our daily lives. I hope you can try it too!
Best regards,
Li Hua
