Do you wear glasses If yes, would you like to have surgery (手术) so you don’t need to wear them anymore Many believe that surgery can fix the problem forever, but that’s not always the case.
Most people wear glasses because of nearsightedness (近视). When we see things, light comes into our eyes and focuses on the retina (视网膜). But for people with nearsightedness, in their eyes, light focuses in front of the retina. This makes things far away seem blurry (模糊的) but close things seem clear.
Surgery can treat this. Xu Jiayi, a 19-year-old student from Beijing, had the surgery five months ago during the winter vacation. “After the surgery, I can see very clearly. Life is more convenient without having to wear eyeglasses,” said Xu.
However, the process is not as easy as you might think. Xu said that her eyes hurt badly right after the surgery. Also, she needed to use medicine for at least three months. “At first, there were four types of medicines, then the number became six,” she said. These medicines help the eyes and prevent eye problems.
Moreover, if you don’t look after your eye health well, nearsightedness may return even after surgery. “Because I use my eyes too much both at work and at home, things have started to look blurry to me again,” said Du Anni, 32, who had the surgery nine years ago. He added, “Instead of fixing nearsightedness, the surgery just lets you ‘take off your glasses’.”
24. According to the passage, what is the main cause of nearsightedness
A. The retina is broken. B. Light focuses behind the retina.
C. Light focuses in front of the retina. D. The eyes cannot receive any light.
25. What was the result of Xu Jiayi’s eye surgery
A. It improved her eyesight. B. She felt pain during it.
C. It didn’t fix her problem. D. She still saw things blurry.
26. What can we learn from Du Anni’s experience
A. After surgery, eye health needs no attention.
B. Surgery can cure nearsightedness forever.
C. Overusing eyes may cause vision to become blurry again.
D. The use of medicine after surgery lasts less than three months.
27. In which part of a newspaper can you probably read this passage
A. Sports. B. World. C. Health. D. Travel.

All the painters began to wonder how to paint the king. They soon decided that it was an impossible task, fearing that if the portrait failed the king, they would get punished. So, one by one, they started making excuses and politely refused. Then, one painter raised his hand and said that he wanted to give it a try. The king agreed. Dear friends,
Last month, we started the “Books and Me” activity. What have you read recently And how did you feel Please share your stories.
8:15 p.m. 30 November I used to dislike classic (经典的) novels, but now I find them fascinating. Last week, I read The Old Man and the Sea. At first, it was harder to understand than I expected. The language felt old-fashioned, and I almost gave up. But as I read further, the story of the old fisherman’s struggle (奋斗) moved me deeply. There’s a famous sentence in the book: “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” That’s exactly what I learned. Every page was worth the effort! Books can give me strength.
8:17 p.m. 31 November “I feel calm and thoughtful (沉思的).” That was my answer when my teacher asked me how I felt after reading poems. This afternoon, I read a collection of nature poems. I was touched by the beautiful images of seasons, rivers, and forests. While reading, I even copied down some lines in my notebook. You know what they say, “Poetry is the rhythm of the soul.” It’s so true. By reading slowly, I felt my mind relax. By writing those lines, I started to notice the beauty in everyday life. It was like a quiet escape (逃离) from noise. I felt so peaceful.
12 minutes ago Over the weekend, I read a science fiction novel called Stars Beyond. It was amazing! I was completely drawn into the story of a journey through space. The descriptions of unknown planets and future technology were so lively. Reading it felt like an adventure (冒险) I don’t feel bored anymore. After finishing it, I even listened to some space-themed (太空主题的) music online. It helps me imagine better while writing! Science fiction made me see how books can inspire us.

In many cultures, being heavy was once seen as a sign of success and happiness. People would say “you’ve gained weight” to mean someone was living a good life. But today, especially on social media, this idea has changed. Now, many young people feel they have to follow certain beauty standards (标准). They think they need to be very thin and have very light skin. More importantly, they feel they must have a perfect face without any problems. These beauty standards are everywhere online, making it hard for people to feel satisfied with their natural bodies.
Recently, “skinny enough” challenges have become very popular on social media, which is worrying. These challenges include tasks like putting arms around one’s waist (腰), seeing if your knees can hide behind a phone, or comparing your waist to a piece of paper. Many girls join in these challenges to feel accepted, but this can lead to unhealthy dieting and poor health in their minds. Besides, pop culture makes things worse by showing unhealthily thin bodies as the “perfect” look.
Luckily, some popular people are fighting these harmful ideas. On a social media website, Theresa, a body-positive (积极的) woman, shares her own experience in dealing with pressures from social stereotypes (刻板印象) and helps people enjoy their own beauty. Another woman, Scarlett Hao, who encourages body diversity (多样化), teaches girls to accept their natural shapes. She tries to show others that confidence (自信) and self-love are the keys to breaking down stereotypes about beauty.
Although stereotypes are still there on social media, people like Theresa and Scarlett are making a difference. They remind us that beauty comes in all sizes and that our value isn’t decided by size or weight. As more people accept these messages, society can start to see body image in a healthier way. Remember: “Love your body—it’s the only one you have.”
In the past, being heavy was linked to success and happiness. However, according to today’s social media, certain beauty standards are that ____50____. This change makes people get into bad eating habits and even ____51____. Luckily, some online popular people like Theresa and Scarlett Hao are working against this. They spread the idea that ____52____. ____53____ is their most important advice to the public.
