Dear Wu Bin,
I’m getting really excited about your visit. I hope you are too. I must say, life is really different here. English people do some very strange things.
In the UK, you must drive on the left. I know you are too young to drive but you have to remember this when you cross the road. I nearly got run over (碾过) the other day. You know in China, if you want a taxi, you can just put your hand out and a taxi stops at once. Well, here you must go to a special place. There is a long line of people waiting.
Shopping is difficult on weekends. I can’t believe how early the shops close. It seems like you can’t buy anything after six o’clock in the evening.
You asked me about living in an English house. The most difficult thing is using knife and fork. I can use chopsticks if I want, but I want to do the same thing as other people. Something really surprised me the other day. My landlady (女房东), Mrs. Johnson hung up (悬挂) her washing in the kitchen! I couldn’t believe it. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have a cat, a dog and two rabbits. Well can you imagine, the other day, all four animals were running around in the kitchen.
Another thing, people drink cold water all the time and they drink tea with milk. They don’t have rice with every meal.
Life here is strange, but I’m enjoying it.
Lots of love and see you soon.

We all wanted to be liked. Sometimes, this means we might say or do something that doesn’t feel right because we want to make someone else happy. However, it’s important to learn how to be truer to ourselves and become comfortable saying “no”. This is called setting boundaries (边界).
Setting boundaries is being honest and respectful about what you like and dislike. That means you will feel more comfortable to live in ways that express your true feelings. Dr Rekha Vara, a clinical psychologist who helps people care for their mental (心理的) health, shares her study that you can think of boundaries as a range (范围). Vara says, “The middle of this range is the healthy space. That’s the best, not too rigid (死板的) or too lazy. It’s not good to prevent ourselves getting close to people. And it’s not healthy if you want to make everyone happy.”
Setting boundaries allows you to “protect” yourself. They help you feel safe and respected. If you don’t have boundaries, some people may make you uncomfortable because they don’t know or understand what is and isn’t acceptable (可接受的). Vara says making others happy “can become a habit” and then they hope you can do what they want every time. It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to tell others clearly about your boundaries — there’s nothing wrong with saying “no”.
Learning to set boundaries also helps us to respect other people’s boundaries and develop healthy relationships. Everyone’s boundaries are different and that’s OK. The things that are not a big deal to you might be important to others. Vara says, “You might not be too worried about seeing the film your friend picked because you enjoy being with your friends. Another friend might choose not to come because they are worried about the film choice. It’s important to find a balance in our friendships so that we should be open towards others and protective of ourselves, too.”
1. How does the writer start the passage
A. By telling stories. B. By asking questions.
C. By using a saying. D. By showing something in common.

A. B. C. D.
3. Which of the following statements may help to set healthy boundaries
A. I like this movie, so you have to watch it with me.
B. That sounds fun for you, but I’m not comfortable about that.
C. We have different ideas about this and that’s not OK.
D. It’s all up to you, I will do whatever you want.
4. Which of the following might be the best title for the passage
A. Setting Boundaries — Respecting Yourself and Others
B. Setting Boundaries — Being Brave to Say “No”
C. Setting Boundaries — Being Glad to Accept “No”
D. Setting Boundaries — The Best Way to Keep Healthy

Time passed. There was plenty of food and no work in the Southland, and White Fang lived fat and happy. Except for Collie, all things went well for him. He learned how to laugh, and how to play at fighting with his master without really biting him. When his master rode his horse, White Fang went with him. He never got tired, because he ran like a wolf.
Once, when they were out riding, his master fell from his horse and broke his leg.
“Home! Go home!” said his master, when he understood his injury (受伤).
White Fang didn’t want to leave him.
“Go home and tell them what happened to me.” White Fang knew the meaning of “home”, though not the rest of the message. But he went.
He ran to Scott’s wife and pulled her dress, but it tore and she was afraid and angry. He stood before Scott’s father growling (嗥叫) until he told White Fang to lie down. He looked at all their faces.
“I think he’s trying to speak,” said Scott’s daughter, Beth.
And at that moment he started to bark — something he had never done before.
“Something’s happened to Scott,” said his wife.
They were all on their feet now, and White Fang ran out of the house. He looked back at them using his eyes to say: “Follow me”.
After this everyone liked him even more.
It was during White Fang’s second winter in the Santa Clara Valley that he made a strange discovery. Collie’s teeth were no longer sharp. Her bites seemed more like playing than hurting. Soon White Fang started playing with her.

When you wake up at night with worries going through your head, it can be hard for you to fall back to sleep. Knowing what to do can help you when worries stop you from sleeping.
It can feel like you’re the only person lying awake with thoughts going around your head in the middle of the night, but it’s usual. Worrying at night feels uncomfortable, so it’s important that you’re kind to yourself. Think about what will help you. That could be waking up an adult to tell them about your worries.
By paying attention to your body instead of your thoughts, your brain can calm down. One way to do this is to get comfortable in bed, then focusing your attention on your feet. Next, move your attention up to your lower legs, then to your body until you get to the top of your head.
If you get to the top of your head and you still can’t sleep, change positions to make you comfortable again, and then slowly do the same exercise, from head to feet. This exercise takes time and you have to really pay attention, so it can help your brain stop worrying, and then you can fall asleep slowly.

2. Which of the following can show “the healthy space” in Paragraph 2 (x=boundaries; y=mental health; a=the healthy space)
A. B. C. D.
