Beauty and the Beast - School Play Script
Characters(角色):
· Narrator 1 & 2: (Stand to the side of the stage)
· Father: (A poor merchant who buys and sells things; a shopkeeper, kind but worried)
· Beauty: (Kind, gentle, and brave)
· Elder Sister & Younger Sister: (Speak in jealous, whiny voices)
· Beast / Prince: (The Beast is a large, scary, animal-like monster who is loud and gruff at first, then becomes gentle. The Prince is soft-spoken and grateful.)
Costume Guide(服装建议):
1. Beauty (Belle)
· At Home:
· A simple, knee-length pastel-colored dress (light blue or yellow works well).
· Wear a white apron over it (this can be made from an old pillowcase or fabric).
· Flat, simple shoes.
· Hairstyle: Hair down in loose waves, or in a low ponytail.
· At the Castle / With the Beast:
· Remove the apron to show the dress is nicer.
· Add a sparkly shawl or a piece of shimmering fabric draped over her shoulders.
· A plastic or paper gold tiara or a simple headband.
· She can carry the single pink rose as a key prop.
2. The Beast
· Main Costume:
· Start with dark, rugged clothing like sweatpants and a hoodie.
· Faux Fur: Staple or safety-pin strips of brown/grey faux fur (or fuzzy fabric like fleece) to the hood, shoulders, and arms of the hoodie. You can also add some to the sweatpants.
· Makeup: Use face paint or makeup to create a furry face, a broad nose (with eyeliner), and add fangs with craft foam or white face paint. (Test makeup for skin sensitivity first!)
· Claws: Wear dark gloves and glue cardboard or craft foam claws to the fingertips.
· Transformation into the Prince:
· The actor can quickly take off the hoodie and furry gloves.
· Underneath, he should wear a nice white shirt and dark trousers.
· Someone off-stage can hand him a red cape (a red blanket or piece of fabric with a ribbon tie) or a plastic crown to put on as the lights flash.
3. The Father (Father)
· Clothing: Wear old-fashioned, slightly worn-looking clothes.
· Examples: Brown or grey trousers, a loose white shirt (maybe with the sleeves rolled up), and a vest or waistcoat.
· Add a traveling cloak or a long coat.
· Carry a canvas bag or a sack for his journey and the Gifts.
4. The Two Sisters
· Goal: They should look fashionable but a bit over-the-top and less kind than Beauty.
· Clothing: Wear bright, fancy dresses (party dresses or long skirts with fancy blouses).
· Accessories: Go overboard! Wear lots of costume jewelry, big hats with feathers, and fancy shoes.
· Makeup: They can wear slightly brighter/darker makeup than other characters to show they are vain.
5. The Prince
· As mentioned above, this is the Beast after the transformation.
· Costume: A nice shirt, dark trousers, and a royal sash (a wide ribbon or piece of fabric worn across the chest from shoulder to hip) or a red cape.
· A gold cardboard crown painted with yellow paint or a plastic crown.
6. Narrators
· Should look neutral and not like story characters.
· Clothing: Simple, all-black clothing (black pants/skirt and a black shirt) is standard for stage narrators. Alternatively, they can wear matching outfits, like simple white shirts and dark bottoms.

Father: (Picking up his bag, smiling at his daughters) My dear daughters, I must go to the city. Would you like any Gifts
Elder Sister: (Jumping up excitedly) Oh yes, Father! I want a new dress!
Younger Sister: (Putting her hands on her hips) I want a new dress, too! The most beautiful one!
Beauty: (Looking up from her book, smiling softly) Father, I don't need a dress. I would just like a rose from the city.
Father: (Touched) I will find one for you, Beauty.
Scene 2: The Castle第二幕:城堡野兽
(Setting: A garden backdrop. The Father acts tired, then sees a rose on the floor.)
Narrator 1: The Father bought dresses for the older daughters, but he could not find a rose for Beauty. On his way home, he went through a big forest.
Narrator 2: Evening came, and the man was tired. He saw a castle. The door was open, so he went inside.
Father: (Rubbing his stomach, looking at an imaginary table) Look! A fire and a table full of food! I am so hungry. I will eat and rest here. (He mimes eating and then sleeps by the "fire".)
Narrator 1: The next morning, the man walked into the garden.
Father: (Looking around, amazed) So many flowers! I must find a rose for Beauty. (He spots the paper rose.) Ah, a beautiful pink rose! (He picks it up.)
Narrator 2: He picked the rose. Suddenly, he heard a loud roar behind him.
Beast: (Entering dramatically, looking angry) WHY ARE YOU PICKING MY ROSE
Father: (Jumping back, frightened) I... I'm sorry! It is a Gift for my daughter, Beauty.
Beast: (Crossing his arms) You may give the rose to your daughter. But she must come here and live with me!
Scene 3: A Difficult Choice艰难地抉择
(Setting: The same living room as Scene 1. The Father holds the rose and looks sad. Beauty enters.)
Narrator 1: The Father went back home. He was very sad. He loved Beauty and did not want her to live with a beast.
Narrator 2: After a few days, Beauty noticed her father was unhappy.
Beauty: (Kneeling beside him) Father, why are you so sad
Father: (Sighing, looking down) I have to tell you something. I met a beast in a castle. I picked a rose for you from his garden. He was very angry. He said I could only give you the rose if you go to live with him.
Beauty: (Taking the rose bravely) You gave him your word, Father. A promise is a promise. I must go.
Scene 4: Life in the Castle 第四幕:城堡的生活
(Setting: The castle garden. The Beast is shy. Beauty looks around.)
Narrator 1: So the Father took Beauty to the castle. The Beast was kind to her.
Beast: (Gently, offering a fancy shawl or dress) Welcome, Beauty. These beautiful clothes and roses are for you. I hope you will be happy here.
Narrator 2: Every evening, Beauty had dinner with the Beast. They talked and read stories together. They were happy.
Beauty: (Looking into the distance) I often think about my father and sisters.
Beast: (Giving her a hand mirror) Here is a gift for you. This is a magic mirror. You can look into it and see your family.
Beauty: (Looking into the mirror, gasping) Oh no! My father is ill! I must help him! (To the Beast) My father is very sick. Please, may I go home
Beast: (Sadly) You may go home for one week. But then you must come back. Take this magic mirror. You can see me in it sometimes.
Scene 5: The Long Visit Home第五幕:长长的归期
(Setting: The living room. The father is in a chair, pretending to be sick. The sisters are with him.)
Narrator 1: Beauty went home and helped her father. She put flowers in his room and gave him good food. After a week, he felt better.
Narrator 2: Beauty liked being at home. One week passed, then two weeks, then three weeks. She forgot about the Beast and never looked in the magic mirror.
Elder Sister: (With a sneer) Beauty, is the Beast very ugly
Younger Sister: (Mocking) Do you like living with him
Beauty: The Beast is ugly, but he is very kind. He gives me flowers and beautiful dresses. (She shows her shawl/dress.)
Narrator 1: The sisters were angry because Beauty's dresses were nicer than theirs.
Narrator 2: One night, Beauty suddenly thought about the Beast.
Beauty: (Holding her heart) I would like to see the Beast again.
Narrator 1: She looked into the magic mirror. She saw the Beast in his garden. He was lying by the roses, and he looked very sad and ill.
Beauty: (Jumping up in alarm) Oh! The Beast is sick! I must go to him now!
Scene 6: The Return and The Transformation第六幕 重归于好
(Setting: The castle garden. The Beast is lying on the floor. Beauty runs in.)
Narrator 2: Beauty took her father's horse and rode quickly back to the castle. She found the Beast in the garden.
Beauty: (Running to the Beast, taking his hand) I'm here! I'm so sorry I was late!
Beast: (Speaking weakly) I waited for you for three weeks... but you didn't come. I thought you didn't like me.
Beauty: (Holding his hand tightly) No, that's not true! I do like you! I love you!
Narrator 1: As soon as Beauty said these words, there was a bright flash of light! (A flashlight can be used off-stage.)
Narrator 2: The Beast was gone. In his place stood a handsome prince.
Prince: (Standing up, smiling) Thank you, Beauty. A bad fairy used her magic on me and turned me into an ugly beast. Only true love could break the spell. You gave me your love and saved me. Will you marry me
Beauty: (Smiling happily) Yes, I will!
Finale剧终:幸福和快乐

Narrator 1: And so, Beauty and the Prince were married.
Narrator 2: They lived happily ever after, proving that true beauty is found within, and kindness and love are the most powerful magic of all.(All actors bow together.)

Quick Tips & Props:
· The Magic Mirror: Use a hand mirror. To show it's "magic," you can glue glitter around the edge or use a picture frame decorated with shiny sequins.
· The Rose: Use a fake pink rose from a craft store. For the "picking" scene, you can secure it to a stand (like a small vase hidden behind a prop bush) so the Father can easily pluck it.
· Color Coding: Using color themes can help the audience. For example, the sisters in loud reds/purples, Beauty in soft blue/yellow, and the Beast in dark browns/greys.
