作文 1:Sky Lantern
Dear Tom,
I’m really glad you’re interested in Chinese traditional culture ! My favorite traditional art form is the sky lantern.
It’s made of bamboo and covered with paper. According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming—he sent them to ask for help when he was in trouble. Now we use them at festivals and celebrations. When we light the lantern, it slowly rises into the air like a small hot-air balloon. It can carry our happiness and good wishes.
It’s special because it’s not just a beautiful object, but also a symbol of our good hopes. Do you want me to tell you more about how we use sky lanterns in festivals
作文 2:Paper Cutting
Dear Tom,
I’m really glad you’re interested in Chinese traditional culture ! My favorite traditional art form is paper cutting.
It’s made of red paper,by the way, red is a lucky color in China. Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years—it sounds easy but is actually difficult. We fold the paper first, then cut it with scissors into patterns like flowers, animals or “Fu” (which means good luck). During Spring Festival, we put these cuttings on windows, doors and walls. We believe they can bring us good luck for the new year.
It’s special because it’s a long-lasting Spring Festival tradition that carries our wishes for a happy life. Do you want me to share some easy paper cutting patterns with you
作文 3:Chinese Clay Art
Dear Tom,
I’m really glad you’re interested in Chinese traditional culture ! My favorite traditional art form is Chinese clay art.
It’s made of a very special kind of clay. To make it, we first shape the clay by hand into cute figures ,like little children or fairy tale characters, then let it air-dry. After that, we fire it at high heat, polish and paint it—it takes several weeks to finish! These small clay pieces look very real, and they can show our love for life and beauty.
It’s special because each tiny work is made with great care and holds our love for a beautiful life. Do you want me to introduce more lovely clay art figures to you

Welcome to today's Great Wall tour! As one of the world's greatest wonders, the Great Wall is a proud symbol of China. It has a long history of over 2,000 years, it's about 8850 kilometers long, it was first built during the Zhou Dynasty. Later, emperors of the Qin, Han and Ming dynasties developed and connected different parts of the wall. Badaling is part of the Ming Great Wall, and it's the most famous part of the whole wall .Why did ancient emperors build it The main reason was to protect their country. You can see the wall is quite tall and wide; as far as we know, there are no other man-made objects as big as it. Today, the Great Wall is a popular tourist spot. Millions of visitors come here every year and we'll spend about two hours here, so feel free to take photos and ask questions!2025-2026学年度青山湖区初三年级初中英语学科阶段性检测

On April 3, 1973, Cooper made the world’s first cell phone call. He called the AT&T manager. On the other end of the line, there was only silence. Cooper made it! People could talk on their phones anywhere finally.

The Sydney Opera House in Australia is a world-famous landmark, but it also has little-known facts.

J rn Utzon, the designer of the Opera House, never saw the completed building in person. He left the project before it finished and didn’t return to Australia until decades later—by then, he was too unwell to visit the site. A small room in the building was kept for him, but he never stepped inside.

The “shells” of the Opera House aren’t just for looks. They were designed to reflect sound perfectly. Each shell’s shape and angle was tested many times to make sure the sound of performances reaches every seat clearly, even without modern speakers.

In 2017, the Opera House added solar panels on its roof. These panels now provide about 10% of the building’s electricity. It also started a program to collect rainwater for cleaning the building’s surfaces, cutting down water waste.

Some people have tried unusual activities at the Opera House. In 1980, a group of dancers performed on the top of the shells (with safety ropes). In 2005, an artist painted one of the shells with a colorful design for a festival—this was the first time the shells were changed for art.
63. The underlined word “reflect” in Part ② most probably means ______.
A. send back B. take in C. break down D. mix up

①Do you know that there may be hundreds of magnets in your home Where are they You can’t see most of them. But they’re inside your telephone, hair dryer and computer. And most of the electricity that runs these things comes from magnetism.
②Magnetism is a force that can’t be seen. This force only pulls on some metals (金属), such as the doors of the cars or simply the keys, but it will not pull on the paper, or on the wood, either. Magnetism flows (流动) through a magnet. It goes in one end and out the other. These two ends are the north and south poles (极). The force flows out the north pole and back in the south pole. You can use two magnets to feel magnetism. The north pole of one magnet will attract the south pole of the other one. Try to push the two north poles together, you will find it is not easy! Two north poles will always repel each other. So will two south poles.
③Magnets are used in many fields. One bank card can have millions of magnets. These magnets are tiny. Each tiny magnet points in its own direction. The different directions of the magnets make a code (代码). Computers read the code. Putting a bank card near a powerful magnet can mess up or erase the code.
④Magnets are used to suspend (悬浮) some high-speed trains above the tracks. Instead of having wheels like regular trains, these trains in China actually fly as they travel. They travel at a top speed of about 267 miles (430 km) per hour. This makes for a fast, smooth ride.
⑤Doctors use a very powerful magnet to look inside a person’s body. It helps doctors see the inside illness of the patients without having to cut them open.
⑥Magnets are fun. They’re also really useful. Every time you watch television or even turn on a light, you are using magnets.
