We’ve got a new entertainment center in Victoria Park. We don’t pass it on the bus, but you may be interested to know it’s got a cinema and a concert hall. Most people prefer it because it’s got air conditioning. Now, on your right, is the High Street. (19)This City Tours bus normally goes along the High Street into the Market Place. But at the moment some musicians are practicing for an outdoor concert there. We’re driving round a different route because the roads into the Market Place are closed. The market was an important local trade center until about 1970. Farmers bought and sold their cows and sheep there. However, we don’t see animals in the city center these days. (20)The market area’s got some good shops. Why don’t you have a walk round there later on

Try using bins with different colors.(在公园和停车场等繁忙区域,在垃圾桶旁边放置回收箱。

【39题详解】根据上文“To encourage participation (参与), offer rewards for recycling efforts. Organize a friendly competition between neighborhoods or streets, and record recycling rates over a month. Encourage teams to collect lights, plastic bottles, glass bottles, and jars. To increase the competition, create a leaderboard that’s updated weekly and shown to the community.(为了鼓励参与,对回收利用的努力给予奖励。组织邻里或街道之间的友好竞赛,并记录一个月的回收率。鼓励团队收集电灯、塑料瓶、玻璃瓶和罐子。为了增加竞争性,创建一个每周更新并向社区展示的排行榜)”可知,这里说的是组织竞赛并创建排行榜,这样做能在这个月里一直鼓励参与者,与E项“This can keep participants encouraged throughout the month.(这可以让参与者在整个月里都受到鼓励)”表达的意思一致,故选E项。
【40题详解】根据上文“Start small, make a big difference(从小事做起,产生大影响)”以及下文“Start with one or two of these ideas and build from there. As more people join, your community’s influence will grow(从这些想法中的一两个开始,然后在此基础上发展。随着越来越多的人加入,你们社区的影响力将会增强)”可知,这里说的是从小事做起,因为改变习惯需要时间,所以要慢慢来,与B项“Remember, changing habits takes time(记住,改变习惯需要时间)”表达的含义一致,故选B项。

13-year-old Ava Dorsey is the founder of Ava’s Pet Palace, a business that sells organic dog and cat treats. “I actually had the idea when I was six with a picture I drew of a palace,” she says. It was a detailed design for dogs and cats and she had serious plans to build it one day.
Unlike most dog treats that you find in stores, dog treats sold by Ava’s Pet Palace are 100% organic, and are non-GMO(非转基因). Ava has set a goal for herself with these dog treats, and she wants every treat to be healthy, tasty, and top-quality. Seriously, some of her treats sound delicious enough for people to eat! “All of my bags now have the USDA organic stamp, and we’re very excited to have gotten it because it’s something I’ve wanted for a long time,” she says. “A lot of stores like to see organic products because customers like it, so that was really exciting.”
Ava says the biggest challenge of being a kid in business is when people don't take her seriously, but undoubtedly Ava has proved that her doubters are wrong! When asked how she defines(定义) success, Ava says, “When you hit a bump in the road, you shouldn’t give up and you keep trying.” She learned that from her mom, who sounds like a smart lady! Some more things Ava has learned from her years in business: Hard work eventually pays off and there is nothing wrong with asking for help.
As far as the future of the pet treats industry goes, Ava is optimistic——but she’d also like to be an inspiration for change. “There’s not much diversity(多样性) right now, so that’s something I would love to see in the future,” says Ava. “I would also love to see more kids in this industry. There aren’t many other teenagers around, and I hope that I can be an inspiration to others who hope to lead the pet industry.”

Have you ever found yourself in a classroom, seen a classmate yawn (打哈欠), and suddenly felt like yawning too This common phenomenon (现象) lies beyond humans — even babies and animals like dogs and cats experience it. So what causes this behavior
First, yawning helps our bodies get more oxygen. Our brains need lots of oxygen to work well.
When we’re tired or sit still for a long time (like during a story time), we breathe slowly. Slow breathing means less oxygen goes into our blood. Our brains notice this and say, “We need more air”. Then — yawn! We open our mouths wide, take a big breath, and pull in fresh oxygen. It also pushes out old air that our body doesn’t need. It’s like pressing a “refresh” button for your body.
Also, yawning is highly contagious. That means if you see someone yawn, you might yawn too. Why Scientists think this might be a way we connect with each other. Long ago, when people lived in groups, yawning could say, “Let’s rest together” or “Wake up — we need to stay safe” . Today, it still makes us feel close to others. If your best friend yawns, your yawning back is like saying, “I’m with you.”
However, unlike popular belief, yawning is not only caused by sleepiness. It can also take place during moments of boredom, such as waiting in line, or surprisingly, when expecting exciting events like a birthday party or an important sports match. In these situations, a yawn may help prepare the body for upcoming changes in activity or stress levels.
So the next time you yawn, don’t feel shy! Recognize it as your body’s smart way to stay healthy. And if you see someone else yawns, go ahead and feel free to join in — it’s a harmless, shared biological experience.
28. How does yawning help our bodies
A. It helps us communicate with animals. B. It prevents us from getting bored in class.
C. It increases oxygen intake and removes old air. D. It makes us feel more sleepy and relaxed.
29. What does the underlined word “contagious” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Healthy. B. Catching. C. Dangerous. D. Natural.
30. According to paragraph 4, in what situation are you most likely to yawn
A. Running a 100-meter race. B. Taking an important exam.
C. Reading an interesting novel. D. Waiting at a railway station.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Why Do You Yawn B. Can You Control Your Yawn
C. Is Yawning Shameful D. When Will You Yawn
D
As more and more students use AI to help with schoolwork, we still aren’t sure about the effect it’s having on learning.
To look into this, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) asked 54 people aged 18 to 39 to write three essays (文章) in 20 minutes. One group wrote all three essays with the help of popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. Another group used only the Internet for help, with AI answers turned off. And a third group used no outside sources at all. The essays were on topics about deep thinking, like whether we need to help others in order to be truly happy, or whether books and movies can truly change people’s lives.
People taking part wore special headsets that recorded their brains’ electrical activity while they wrote. Those using ChatGPT showed the lowest levels of brain connectivity, while those using only the Internet had greater brain connectivity. Those using no outside sources had the most connectivity. After they’d finished, the ChatGPT group was also the least able to repeat sentences from their essays.
Eighteen people were later called back to rewrite one of their essays. This time the groups were changed — those who had used ChatGPT before now had to write with no outside sources, and those who had used no outside sources before could now use ChatGPT. It found that all nine people from the no-outside-sources group could remember all the topics they had written about before. But only three of those who had used ChatGPT could remember all of their topics. And those who had used ChatGPT before still showed weaker brain connectivity even now that they were writing without using any outside sources.
The study has not yet been checked by other experts. However, the researchers decided to share their results right away without waiting because of how important the findings may be for children’s education — and they felt the results should be seen as soon as possible.
32. Why did researchers carry out the study
A. To test Internet’s practical value. B. To improve students’ writing skills.
C. To know AI’s effect on learning. D. To teach students to use ChatGPT.
33. What made the three groups different from each other
A. The number of essays. B. Topics of their essays.
C. Time for writing essays. D. Sources used for writing.
34. What can be found from the further study according to paragraph 4
A. ChatGPT users forgot more topics. B. Internet users wrote better essays.
C. No-source users repeated most essays. D. AI users had stronger brain connectivity.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Ways to Use Outside Sources.
B. Why AI Is Less Helpful to Students.
C. AI Might Decrease Learning Effect.
D. How Memory Directly Affects Writing Process.

As a single mother, I’ve never doubted my daughter Jane’s dream to be a singer on the stage. At an early age, she was crazy about singing. Whenever she had a chance, she would sing to her heart’s content. Her sweet and charming voice tended to get people around attracted to her songs.
Living in a small city, I took several odd jobs, determined to do everything in my power to support her. Soon after Jane attended school, her music teacher Mary noticed her talent by chance and volunteered to give her some guidance on how to sing. Jane practiced so hard that before long she made great progress in singing.
Unfortunately, one noon a year later, Jane was crossing the street when a careless driver knocked her down. She was rushed to hospital. When I hurried there, the doctor told me that my daughter would probably not stand on her own feet. I froze with shock, feeling as if I had been thrown into a dark world. Weak and dizzy, I was about to fall to the ground when someone took hold of me.
It was Mary, who got the news and raced here. She comforted me, saying firmly, “Grace, Jane needs you. You must stay calm and strong.” I nodded. Having calmed down, I entered the ward with Mary.
That night, Jane recovered her consciousness (知觉) and opened her eyes. Holding her hand, I said, “My dear, everything would be fine.” Mary comforted her gently, “I know you are a strong girl, Jane. Don’t worry. We’ll be standing by you.” I was heartbroken to see tears streaming down Jane’s cheeks.
After two months, we returned home from hospital. Her teachers and friends frequently visited her. Jane eventually accepted the fact that she would have to get around in a wheelchair. Never did she refer to the subject of singing again. I knew she was a nice and understanding girl, who was afraid that talking about her original dream would upset the two of us.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
One day, however, Mary came with good news.
