For Edward Kankaka, life didn't have an easy start. Born in Uganda, he lost his father before turning four,
having to be raised by his grandmother. On the other side of the world, Bruce and Margaret Anschau, an
Australian couple, had made a promise. For every kid they had, they would sponsor (资助 ) one in need.
Through a charity organization, they learned about little Edward, supporting him through many years. And
now, over 30 years later, they finally got to meet in person.
Kankaka, who is now 36 years old, grew up to be an HIV research scientist who studies at John Hopkins
University. After learning he had to attend a medical meeting inAustralia, he made a plan to visit the
Anschaus in their hometown. “It’ s like meeting a family you had never seen,” Kankaka said.
The family, who had been sponsoring Kankaka since 1995, had held onto every single letter and picture
sent by him. To make their meeting all the more memorable, they brought it all with them when they met at
the airport, allowing Kankaka to look back on his youth and know how much the family cared about him
throughout the years. While the usual sponsorship ends when the kid turns 18, they continued to
supportKankaka through university.
To make their children part of the process, the Anschaus allowed them to choose who they wanted to
sponsor. It was their then 4-year-old son Tim, who picked Kankaka for his big smile. The family sent money
every month to help child development centers, which provided Kankaka with education and training, regular
(定期的) medical check-ups,meals, and snacks.
Kankaka, now a recognized scientist in his field, is positive about the developments in HIV research.
“There’ s been great progress,” he said. “At some point during our lifetime hopefully a cure(疗法 ) will
come.” And if it weren’ t for the Anschaus, he may not have been part of the solution. “There’ s nothing I
could do that would be enough to say thank you,” Kankaka added.
24. What made the Anschaus decide to sponsor Edward Kankaka
A. Edward's sad story of losing his father early.
B. A charity organization’ s heartfelt call for help.
C. Their children’ s request to help children in Uganda.
D. Their plan to sponsor a child for each of their own kids.
25. Why did Edward Kankaka go to Australia
A. To visit the Anschaus’ hometown.
B. To take part in a medical meeting.
C. To do research on HIV at a local university.
D. To express his thanks to the Anschaus in person.
26. Which of the following can best describe the Anschaus
A. Kind and selfless. B. Rich and powerful.
C. Proud and successful. D. Humorous and wise.
27. What is the main idea of the text
A. An HIV researcher’ s great achievements.
B. The importance of charity organizations.
C. An Australian family’ s way to raise children.
D. A touching story of sponsorship and thankfulness.

On Perranporth beach in Cornwall, the local outdoor swimming group, thePerranporth Bluetits, jump into
the Atlantic on cold days. Their friendship and sense of achievement are obvious. Encouraged by such
refreshing experiences, community groups and the voluntary area have started designing“blue care”
programmes to connect people with water. Some doctors even strongly recommend“bluespace” activities.
Encouraged by the health benefits of open water swimming, my team and I did the largest survey of
open-water swimmers to date. Our study, published in the Journal ofEnvironmental Psychology, shows that
wild swimming improves mental (心理的)health by satisfying mental needs like freedom and control in the
water.
As part of the Blue Health project, we surveyed around 20,000 adults in 19countries about their
interactions (互动) with blue spaces and their health. Among them, 1,200 reported swimming in blue spaces,
including open-air pools, lakes, rivers and the sea. Wild swimming has more important benefits.
Surprisingly though, social connection did not play as big a role in these effects on mental health as we had
expected, although the number of community swimming groups like the Perranporth Bluetits is increasing. At
least in this international group, personal achievement seemed to be more influential than community
connection. However, more skilled swimmers, who often choose adventurous places, sometimes reported
higher anxiety (焦虑) levels. This suggests that wild swimming can be good but also challenging.
These findings add to earlier research on open-water swimming. They show that this activity is good for
the physical and mental health of adults from different countries, explain how these benefits happen, and point
out the discrepancy between natural waters and man-made outdoor pools. So, should we all be jumping in and
recommending such experiences for better mental health
The research does not quite support that yet. We need to be realistic about some of the other challenges
our oceans face, such as drowning (溺水 ) risks and polluted waters.Still, our results support research into
recommending getting close to nature to improve certain health conditions. This is something that the UK
government is prepared to spend millions on.
28. What is the activity of the Perranporth Bluetits according to paragraph 1
A. Running on the beach. B. Playing in indoor pools.
C. Doing scientific research. D. Swimming in the Atlantic.
29. How does wild swimming improve mental health
A. By reducing anxiety levels. B. By meeting mental needs.
C. By improving social connection. D. By increasing body strength.
30. What does the underlined word“discrepancy” in paragraph 5 probably mean
A. Connection. B. Problem. C. Difference. D. Balance.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Wild swimming is risk-free for mental health.
B. Polluted waters are worse than drowning risks.
C. Research advises everyone to try wild swimming.
D. The UK supports health studies on nature connection.

Play is important to a child's healthy development. Play is so important to child development that“it has
been recognized by the United Nations High Commission forHuman Rights as a right of every child”.
According to Dr. Michael Popkin, writer of theActive Parenting series of parenting programs, playing with
your child builds the child’ s self-esteem(自尊), helps the child learn about the world, provides chances for the
child to learn new skills, and builds the connection between parent and child.
Playing fully with your child offers a wonderful chance to build your child's self-esteem. Imagine how
your child must feel, knowing that the most important person in their world likes them enough to take the time
to play with them. Besides, research shows when you allow the play to be child-directed, children benefit in
many ways. They can move at their own speed, practice decision-making skills, and discover what their own
areas of interest are. Research also tells us that child-directed play improves a child’ s self-control, the way
they control their feelings, and how they feel about themselves. However, when the play is controlled by adults,
some of the benefits of play are lost, such as developing leadership and creativity skills.
Brain development is strengthened by play. It is how children, at a very early age, connect with and interact
with their world. As they explore and master challenges, they build new abilities and skills which improve
confidence and build resilience(韧性), both of which are needed to help them face future challenges in life. A
child's development is influenced positively by consistent (持续的) and loving relationships with parents as
they interact through play.
Playing with your child benefits you too. Science shows that parents playing with their kids release
oxytocin (释放催产素), which is connected to trust and relationship building. It also reduces the effects of
stress, lowering blood pressure, anxiety and fear.
Try adding a little play each day with your child. Take action now!
32. What can we know about child-directed play
A. It allows children to learn at their own speed.
B. It is less effective than adult-guided instruction.
C. It mainly focuses on developing hands-on skills.
D. It requests parents to set strict rules for activities.
33. What do we know about children without play experiences
A. They prefer to think deeply. B. They will face fewer challenges.
C. They may be less confident. D. They usually do badly in school.
34. What is the writer's attitude toward daily parent-child play
A. Doubtful. B. Uncertain. C. Encouraging. D. Negative.
35. Where is the text probably taken from
A. A parenting guide. B. A science textbook.
C. A children's book. D. A medical report.
第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5分,满分 12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
“Execution(执行力)” means skills for problem-solving, time management, and decision-making. Here's
how to improve it.
Take small steps. 36 To begin with, pick one little thing you can do to make a change. For example, if
your challenge is an untidy room, collect empty glasses and plates and put them in the dishwasher. Your room
probably looks a little better already!Next, pick up clothing that's been gathering(堆积) on a chair and hang it
up.
Break it down. You can probably do anything if it's just for 20 minutes. 37 Take a break for 10 minutes,
and then set the timer again for 15 more minutes to work on your goal.
38 If you have to finish a task that you' re not excited about, make it more enjoyable by mixing it with
something you do like. For example, play music or an audiobook(有声书) while you sweep leaves. You could
also call a friend to clean out your disorganized backpacks together.
Personalize your organization. The best organizing system is the one that suits you.You may find writing
daily checklists in a notebook easier than using lots of sticky notes. 39
Be kind to yourself. Learning execution skills needs practice. When you forget or lose something, be as
kind to yourself as to a friend who makes a mistake. 40 It may feel silly at first, but repeat sentences like,
“You’ re doing the best you can, and that’ s enough.”
A. Set a timer and go.
B. Mix tasks with something fun.
C. A small study shows self-kindness reduces stress.
D. It's important to finish all tasks at once to save time.
E. Some people prefer using phone apps to record their daily tasks.
F. Many people find it easy to make plans but hard to stick to them till the end.
G. For many people, just getting started is the hardest step toward achieving a task.

Brenda was a woman who treasured order in her life. Her house was always tidy, and the street in front of
her home was a model of cleanliness. Every morning, she would take a walk, admiring the nice flowers and
the well-cleaned roads.
One sunny morning, her peaceful world suddenly fell apart. An old camper van(露营车)pulled up right in
front of her house. After many long trips, its coating of paint was coming off, making the van look even more
worn-out. And one of the tires(轮胎) looked a bit flat. Brenda’ s face immediately darkened. She thought it
was an ugly mess that ruined the street’ s tidiness.
Soon, the owner of the van, Maud, a woman in her sixties, knocked on Brenda’ s door. Maud had a warm
smile and explained that she planned to stay in the town during the local folk music festival. She also asked if
she could use Brenda’ s bathroom. “I’ m sorry, but that's not convenient,” Brenda answered coldly, shutting
the door beforeMaud could say more. She just wanted this“ugly woman” to leave as soon as possible.
Over the next few days, Brenda tried everything to make Maud leave. She called the town office, saying
the van was blocking traffic(it wasn't), and even left a note asking her to move. But Maud just waved and
smiled each time she saw Brenda, never complaining. At night, Brenda would hear soft music coming from
the van—— soft guitar strums(弹奏) and a sweet voice singing old folk songs. Slowly, her anger turned into
doubt. “Am I being too unfriendly ” she wondered. Maud didn't seem like a troublemaker and didn't do
anything wrong. She was a traveler and maybe she just wanted to make friends and enjoy the festival.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, Brenda took a deep breath and walked to the van.
By the time the festival ended, they were good friends.2028届普通高等学校招生全国统一考试
