Xiaoqiang, my little brother, is my uncle’s son. He is only two months younger than me. Whenever I think of him, two interesting things will come into my mind.
When I was six years old, he with his parents moved from the south of China to my hometown—a very small town in the north. The door of my house was made of iron. You know, the northern part of China was so cold in winter that doors were all clothed with frost (霜). Xiaoqiang once came to my house and said that was sugar. I corrected him saying that was frost. But he insisted. I gave up and said, “Sugar is sweet. Go and taste.” He really did that. But his tongue was stuck (粘) to the door. It was my mom helped him out with warm water. For this I was beaten by my dad.
The other interesting thing happened when we were in Grade 7. After they moved to my hometown, we almost did everything together, began our primary school, entered the same middle school and we have been classmates for nearly nine years. For some time, we hated going to school and tried to make all excuses just to skip (悄悄溜走).My classroom was on the second floor, not very high. One day, we tried to jump out through the windows when the teacher turned to the blackboard to write. I did it with two other close friends, of course including him. I made it first. I did it. So was the next one. When he started to move, the teacher was making sound. He was so afraid, he didn’t jump right. He was hung by the window on his clothes. About half an hour, he shouted in a poor voice, “______”. You can imagine what a “wonderful” scene it was!
( )28. The underlined word “insist” most probably means ______.
A. say “yes” B. refuse to change C. become angry D. take advice
( )29. Because Xiaoqiang thought the white frost on the door was sugar ______.
A. I tasted the frost with him
B. I tried to correct him and told him the truth
C. I went to the door and tasted it to show that was not sugar
D. my mom and dad beat me and stuck my tongue onto the door
( )30. Xiaoqiang and I almost did everything together ______.
A. after we went to Grade Seven B. since they began our primary school
C. after he moved to my hometown with his family D. since we left the same middle school
( )31. “______” can be the missing sentence in the passage.
A. What a nice place I am having B. The higher I stand, the farther I can see.
C. Sir, may I go back there D. Would you like to come with me

On September 3, 2025, a grand memorial parade (阅兵) was held in Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square. This event was of great importance. It showed the development of the country and its military (军事) forces, and also helped people remember the spirit of fighting for national independence.
The parade included two parts: a ceremony and a march-past. It lasted about 70 minutes. Before the event, all preparation work was nearly finished. The soldiers taking part in the parade were full of energy, waiting to be reviewed. Everyone wanted to celebrate this special day that honors the victory of the anti-fascist (反法西斯的) war.
Many kinds of weapons (武器) and equipment (装备) were shown during the parade. All of these items were made in China. Some new types of equipment appeared for the first time. This showed that the country’s military has the ability to protect its people and keep peace in the region.
