Have you ever wondered why birds sing Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing when you are happy.
Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Do you know what a "territory" is A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male(雄性)animal, considers as its own. Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same species(物种)are welcome. Your yard and house are your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and frighten you, you might shout. Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.
If so, you have actually scared the stranger away without having to fight him. A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time, especially at nesting(筑巢)season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not. This screaming is what we call a bird's song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.
Birds sing loudest in spring when they are trying to attract a mate and warn others not to enter the territory of theirs.
You can see that birds have a language of their own. Most of it has to do with attracting(吸引)mates and setting up territories.
31. How does the writer explain birds' singing
A. By telling a bird's story. B. By describing birds' daily life.
C. By reporting experiment results. D. By comparing birds with human.

A. An area which a bird considers to be its own.
B. An area for which birds fight against each other.
C. A place where a bird may shout at the top of its voice.
D. A place where families of other species are not welcome.
34. Why do birds keep on singing at nesting season
A. Because they want to invite more friends.
B. Because they want to find outsiders around.
C. Because they want to express their happiness.
D. Because their singing helps frighten outsiders away.
35. What's the best title of the passage
A. The differences of human and birds B. How birds keep an outsider away

①More and more people believe that technologies are great for learning. Today, such teaching tools as iPads are used in a lot of courses, including language, history and science.
②Many teachers are supporters of using iPads in language learning. They say that students now have much more time for discussion in the classroom. Instead of spending valuable class time listening to texts or watching teaching videos, students can do this on their own and come to class prepared for discussion.
③The teachers also say that iPads allow students to learn at their own pace. Some students might listen to a conversation only once and understand it, so they can save time for doing other things. Other students, however, might need to listen to the same conversations again and again to understand it. Using iPads is especially helpful to students who are learning a language at different paces.
④The students who are using the new tool in some courses are also happy. They believe that using iPads is a more enjoyable way to learn(such as listening to stories and watching movies). The class has become much more interesting and creative.
⑤There are other advantages for students. By using iPads, they can pay more attention to the material and learn more. Teaching notes are stored in their iPads and are easy to find. Some students spend more time studying now. "I can listen to my language material or watch teaching videos on the bus, instead of having to wait until I get home," a student explained.
⑥Many adults complain that technologies such as iPads are doing harm to students. They worry that students might use iPads to download teaching notes and use them to cheat during exams. Some believe that iPads may separate students from each other. If a student spends more time watching videos on an iPad, he will have fewer opportunities to have face-to-face communication with others.
⑦However, technologies are already a part of most students' day-to-day lives. As for cheating, teachers can ask students to hand in their iPads when they take exams. Education needs to make changes with the times as technology is playing an important part. We should look forward to a wonderful future when iPads and other technologies can add a lot to the classroom.
36. What does the expression "at their own pace" in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. According to their own timetable. B. Without their teachers' help.
C. Because of their wonderful goals. D. Against their parents' hope.
37. According to the passage, which is one of the reasons, why some adults feel worried about technologies used in education
A. They do harm to students eyes. B. They make students less interested in learning.
C. They influence the relationship between students. D. They cause the students to be more stressed.
38. The writer probably agrees that ________.
A. teachers can take control of students' learning B. exam results depend a lot on new technology
C. technology in education has a bright future D. note-taking is as helpful as video-watching
39. What's the best title of this passage
A. New technology changes learning B. The wonderful future of iPads
C. A more enjoyable way to learn D. How to use iPads properly

Minor Snow(小雪)is the 20th solar term in the traditional Chinese solar calendar, marking when light snow falls and temperatures drop. This year, Minor Snow starts on November 22 and ends on December 6. During this time, snow mainly falls in northern China, where temperatures drop below zero. The first snow along the Yellow River often appears now. While snow at night may freeze, it typically melts during the day as the earth is not yet frozen enough.
As the weather turns colder, people begin to change their clothing and lifestyle. In northern China, winds from the northeast grow stronger, making it sensible to start wearing hats and scarves to keep warm. According to an old Chinese saying, "The head is the place where all passages of the body gather," which highlights the importance of protecting the head from the cold.
Minor Snow also brings changes to people's diet. Indoor heating during this time creates dry air, leading to discomfort such as dry mouth or nose. Traditional Chinese medicine recommends drinking hot soups to counteract the "inner heat." Popular soups include cabbage and bean curd soup, spinach and bean curd soup, and mutton and radish soup. In South China, people enjoy glutinous rice cakes, which were historically offerings to the bull god and have become a seasonal delicacy.
With the temperature dropping sharply, it is also the perfect time to make preserved pork. This tradition, developed when storage conditions were poor, allows families to enjoy flavorful meat during winter. Many believe preserved pork tastes even better than fresh meat. Similarly, pickled vegetables are prepared during Minor Snow, especially in places like Nanjing, where they have been a winter staple for centuries due to limited access to fresh produce.
Minor Snow reflects the wisdom of adapting to seasonal changes, blending practical traditions with health-conscious practices to prepare for the colder months ahead.

D. To show how traditional sayings guide clothing choices.
43. What makes people drink soups during Minor Snow
A. The cold winds. B. The dryness. C. The customs. D. The doctors' advice
44. Why do people mainly start preparing pickled vegetables
A. Because fresh vegetables are unavailable in winter.
B. Because pickled vegetables are a winter tradition in Nanjing.
C. Because it is the best time for preserving food.
D. Because they are tastier than fresh vegetables.
45. What is the passage mainly about
A. The customs and traditions during Minor Snow.

Zhang also met many other mountain climbers from all over the world. They all encouraged him even though they spoke different languages. Zhang could feel their warmth through hugs or pats on his shoulder. Zhang said the climbing of Qomolangma taught him many things, including how to trust people.

Living skills are very important in our daily life. The process of learning it is also meaningful to us. I learned how to cook meals last summer holiday. I thought it was easy as my mother did it quickly and perfectly. Then I decided to have a try so I could do something nice for my parents and take care of myself. I bought the food I needed in the market and then I washed and cut it to get ready. Then my mother taught me how to do it right. I tried several times in the kitchen and finally made it. I felt proud of myself. After that, I have realized that my parents do so much for me all the time. More importantly, I found cooking was not an easy thing.
We should learn more living skills to make our life better and look after both ourselves and others.
