When Brecciaroli first moved to Finland from Italy, he knew little about the Súmi languages(萨米语).“I had never even been to Inari when I started studying Inari Súmi. I'd never met aSúmi person in my life.”
Little did he know that 20 years later, he would become one of the leading persons in theInari Sámi revitalization (恢复) movement. He first planned to spend a semester in Tampere,Finland, then return home to finish his engineering studies. But just as that semester was coming to an end, he met his wife and thus stayed in Finland. He became fluent in Finnish and moved into working as a translator. Ten years later, he discovered a five-year online course in Inari Sámi offered by the University of Oulu.“I became the first Italian to learn Inari Súmi and one of the few foreigners to get a master's degree in the language,” says Brecciaroli.
By 2019, Brecciaroli was working with a scholar named Marja-Liisa Olthuis, taking over publishing activities for Anaráskiellá servi, the Inari Súmi Association (协会), which focused on books, newspapers, and digital tools. He is now the editor of Anará Aavis, the only daily newspaper in Inari Súmi, started in 2023. Additionally, they translate a variety of books for both children and adults.
Technology is also playing a growing role.“We are now developing a digital spell-checker and a grammar checker,” says Olthuis.“It's a slow process, but it works.” Brecciaroli also leads efforts to increase Wikipedia content in Inari Sámi, which started in 2020.“We now have 6,050articles published in Inari Sámi,” he says. Some help is coming from the outside as well. TheUniversity of Tartu in Estonia created the first digital translation software to translate 23languages, including Inari Sámi.
“A lot of culture depends on language. It's an important piece of identity. But we don't worry about losing Inari Sámi anymore,” says Olthuis.“We now have voices on the radio and in the media. We won't lose this language. My friends and I work for it.”

A major new study led by the University of Sydney suggests that walking 7000 steps a day offers similar health benefits across several results as walking 10,000. Led by Professor MelodyDing from the School of Public Health, the study researched data from 57 studies from 2014 to2025 that were conducted in more than ten countries including Australia, USA, and UK.
As the largest and most all-round review to date, the researchers examined the effect that different daily step counts have on the chance of dying from cardiovascular (心血管的) disease and cancer. Professor Melody Ding says the findings offer a more achievable goal for people who struggle to meet traditional exercise instructions.
“Aiming for 7000 steps is a realistic goal based on our findings, which looked at health results in a number of areas that hadn't been studied before,” said Professor Ding.“However, for those who cannot yet achieve 7000 steps a day, even small increases in step counts, such as increasing from 2000 to 4000 steps a day, are associated with good fitness.”
“We know daily step count is connected with living longer, but we now also have findings that walking at least 7000 steps a day can greatly improve eight major health results, including reducing risk of cardiovascular disease and mental (心理的) problems,” added Professor Ding.
“For people who are already active, 10,000 steps a day is great,” said Dr. Katherine Owen,co-author of the study.“But beyond 7000 steps, the extra benefits for most of the health results we looked at were limited.”
The researchers are working with the Australian government to use the findings from this study to help make future exercise advice.“Our research helps to change the focus from perfection to progress. Even small increases in daily movement can lead to meaningful health improvements,” said Professor Ding.
Experts are calling for future studies to explore how step goals should be different based on age, health state and place. Professor Ding says this kind of detail is uncommon and will be useful for doctors when giving personalized advice for patients.
28. What is the key finding of the new study led by Professor Melody Ding
A. Walking more steps is always better.
B. Small step increases benefit everyone.
C. 10,000 steps a day is the best exercise goal.
D. 7000 steps daily is similarly helpful to 10,000 steps.
29. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined part“associated with” in paragraph 3
A. Caused by. B. Related to. C. Separated from. D. Compared with.
30. How might the study results be used
A. To create new step-tracking apps.
B. To establish a standard for daily steps.
C. To give national exercise instructions.
D. To push active people to set higher step goals.
31. What will future research probably focus on
A. The best time of day for walking. B. Mental health benefits of walking.
C. Health risks of low daily step counts. D. Step goals for different situations and groups.
D
“If I could talk to the animals, just imagine it, chatting to a chimp (黑猩猩) in its language,” sang the actor Rex Harrison in the 1967 movie Doctor Dolittle.“Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting to a lion. What a great achievement that would be!” Talking to animals may have seemed like a dream in the 1960s, but it may soon become possible thanks to AI (人工智能).
The sounds that animals make to communicate with each other have rules that other members of their species understand, but these rules are hard for humans to identify. However, AI is very good at finding rules if it is given enough data. And because AI can sort through millions of sounds to find such rules, many scientists believe AI may soon help us understand what animals are saying.
Scientists have a project called CETI. They use AI to study the sounds of sperm whale (抹香鲸). They already know that these whales use clicks to identify each other, and that groups of whales even have their own special sounds. The CETI researchers have trained a machine language program on a database of whale sounds, and they are now trying to match the sounds the AI has identified with whale behavior. They believe they will be able to translate the language of sperm whales as soon as 2026.
Some people believe that understanding the language of animals will change how we see our relationship with the natural world, and may encourage greater protection efforts. But in the meantime, it seems some animals might already want to talk to us! Some whales have been recorded blowing large bubble (气泡) rings in water during meeting with humans. And a study of these meetings suggests that the whales may be trying to use the bubbles to communicate with us!
32. How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1
A. By telling a historic story. B. By providing research results.
C. By explaining animal languages. D. By quoting a movie song.
33. Why is AI helpful for people to understand animal sounds
A. It can create new animal languages. B. It can find rules from many sounds.
C. It can directly translate animal languages. D. It can copy the sounds made by animals.
34. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Whales mainly use bubbles to communicate.
B. People can surely live in harmony with animals.
C. Understanding animal languages may protect nature.
D. More projects will be conducted to study animal sounds.
35. What can be the best title for the text
A. AI May Soon Help Us Talk to Animals
B. How Whales Communicate with Humans
C. How We Protect Animals Through Technology
D. CETI Has Uncovered the Mystery of Whale Sounds

How to Study Math Well in High School
Math can be tricky! Even if you don't feel like it's your strongest subject, you can get better at math if you' re willing to put in the work. The best way to do well in math is to practice every day, so set aside plenty of time to study on your own or with a group. 36 It will benefit you in every way.
Read your textbook actively. Take your time to make sure you understand what you' re reading. Read each section slowly, making sure you fully understand it before you move on to the next one. 37
Spend a few minutes studying each day. 38 In math, everything new you learn builds on what you already know, so you have to really master each concept (概念) before moving on to the next. If you try to study it all at once, it can get really confusing, so set aside a few minutes every day to study and do your homework.
39 Write out complete solutions, even for practice and homework. Your teacher will usually require you to show your work—— or write out every step—— when you' re taking a math test.Get in the habit of doing that every time you work a problem, even if it's just something you' re doing to practice.
Take practice tests to check your skills. Treat the practice test as if it were real. If you' re anxious about taking an exam, do one or more practice ones in advance. 40 Check your work after taking the practice test, then focus your study on weak areas.
A. Be active in your study group.
B. Show your work on every problem.
C. Don't try to prepare for tests at the last minute.
D. With a little determination, you can make real progress.
E. Try to set up a quiet space, time the test, and don't stop.
F. Any time your teacher is explaining something, follow along carefully.
G. Remember to take note of key points and examples that are mentioned in the book.

For example, in Japan, a country often hit by earthquakes, GPS technology 59 (save) thousands of lives since it was put into use.
Drones(无人机) are also helpful new tools. They can fly over areas that are not 60 (suit) for the ground teams to reach, like mountains or flooded lands. They take photos and collect information, 61 (provide) useful details for disaster prevention. In addition, drones can deliver food and medicine to people 62 (trap) in disaster-hit areas.
AI plays an increasingly important role, too. It can process 63 huge amount of data from weather reports and past disaster records. By studying these data, AI can identify some hidden risks. As is reported, AI has successfully issued early warnings for some wildfires, giving people enough time to evacuate and take fire-prevention 64 (measure).
Early warning systems are being improved worldwide. They send warnings to phones 65 (immediate) when disasters come. This simple but effective way has reduced the number of injured people in many countries.

The Unspoken Letter
Lily looked at the blank paper. Her pen stayed above it, not moving. She was a new student in Canada, and English was hard for her. Last week, her teacher Ms. Brown assigned(布置)a task: write a thank-you letter to someone who helped you. Lily thought of her deskmate Tom. But she was afraid—— what if her grammar was not correct
Ms. Brown noticed Lily in trouble and came over to her.“Don't worry about being perfect,Lily,” she said and gave Lily a dictionary.“Just write what you really feel.” Lily nodded, but she still couldn't think of the right words. After school, Lily took the unwritten letter home, her anxiety about the task only growing. That night, while reviewing her textbook, Lily found a note in it. The note said:“English is hard for me too! Let's practice together—— Tom.” Looking at the note, Lily felt a warmth spread through her chest and decided to try again tomorrow.
The next day, as Lily sat at her desk, Tom showed her his own first letter. It was messy, with many grammar mistakes. Lily smiled and then started writing her letter. But when she finished, she crumpled(揉皱) the paper. It still felt bad—— without the right words and fluent sentences. She put it in her backpack and decided to stop trying.
After class, Ms. Brown walked to Lily and said,“I saw you working hard. Do you want to read your letter to me ” Lily shook her head, tears filled her eyes.“It's not good enough,” she said quietly. Ms. Brown patted her shoulder gently.“Let's look at it together.”
As Lily opened the paper, Tom walked over.“Can I listen to it ” he asked softly. Lily nodded, then took a deep breath and started reading. Her voice shook, and she made mistakes with some words. When she finished, she felt embarrassed and waited to be laughed at.
But Ms. Brown clapped (鼓掌) and added,“This is the most sincere letter I' ve heard!”Tom nodded.“I wish I could write like this. But Lily, there's one thing…” He stopped and held out a piece of paper.“I wrote a letter for you too.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Lily took the letter with shaking hands.
Ms. Brown watched them, a smile on her face.

书面表达
Dear Peter,
I'm glad to hear that you' re interested in Chinese cultural heritage protection.
My city is home to an ancient stone bridge built in the Ming Dynasty, which has stood over the river for nearly 500years. To protect it, the local government has closed the bridge to heavy vehicles to avoid damage. Besides, regular inspections and repairs are carried out by experts every year to keep it in good condition. Volunteers also guide visitors to respect the rules, like not carving on the stones.
This bridge is a symbol of our history and wisdom. I sincerely invite you to come and admire its beauty in person.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写
Lily took the letter with shaking hands. She opened it slowly. Then she saw Tom's messy handwriting. The letter started:“Dear Lily, when you first sat next to me, I was scared to talk with you. My English was bad. But you always smiled when I spoke. That made me become brave and confident. Thank you for being my friend.” Lily looked up at Tom.
Her eyes were wet.“Your English is perfect,” she said quietly.
Ms. Brown watched them, a smile on her face.“You see ” she said.“Letters aren't about perfect grammar. They' re about sharing what's in your heart. Both of you did that today.” Lily and Tom looked at each other and smiled widely. From that day on, they practiced English together every day. Lily wasn't afraid of writing anymore. She knew the most important thing was to show her real feelings. And as her English got better, her friendship with Tom became stronger, too.

Text 10
Good morning, everyone. This is a beginner course for Spanish learning. My name's Alex. I began to learn Spanish at university, just like all of you. Since my graduation, I' ve lived and taught here. In this class, we have people from all backgrounds. I strongly remind you that you don't have to rush your learning. You may feel pressure to learn at the same pace as someone else. But I' ll say that coming to class every week is very important. Missing a class can have a bad effect on your progress. Besides, learning apps and language clubs can be quite helpful in learning a new language outside of class. Also, I'd like to stress the importance of pronunciation. Before learning new vocabulary and key words, it's important to learn how to correctly pronounce the words first. Learning the letters doesn't necessarily mean that you know how to pronounce words. So, learning pronunciation rules right at the beginning is the first thing you have to deal with.
