Chosin Reservoir is a man-made lake located in the northeast of the North Korea. The name Chosin is the Japanese pronunciation of the Korean place named Changjin, and the name stuck due to the outdated Japanese maps used by United Nations forces during the Korean War.
The Chosin Reservoir was the site of a critical battle in the Korean War. In November 1950,Chinese troops intervened in the Korean War on the side of North Korea and thoroughly destroyed three divisions of American forces between the Chosin Reservoir and Hungnam. It’s the worst defeat American forces had seen since the Battle of Bataan during World War Ⅱ,which led US President Harry Truman to ultimately approve the use of atomic(原子的)bombs in Japan.
The battle was fought over some of the roughest terrain(地形). The road was created by cutting through the hilly terrain of Korea, with steep climbs and drops. Main peaks, such as the Funchilin Pass and the Toktong Pass, overlook the entire length of the road. The road’s quality was poor, and in some places it was reduced to a narrow path.
The battle was also fought during the hardest winter weather conditions in Korea. On 14 November,a cold front from Siberia moved across the Chosin Reservoir, and the temperature suddenly dropped to as low as -37°C. The cold weather was accompanied by frozen ground, creating considerable danger of being frozen to death, icy roads, and weapon failures. Medical supplies froze;injections had to be warmed in a nurse’s mouth before it could be injected;frozen blood plasma(血浆)was useless on the battlefield. Batteries used for the telegraphs and radios did not function properly in the temperature and quickly ran down.
24.What is Chosin Reservoir famous for
A. Its special location. B. Its various names.
C. The Korean War. D. A film with the same name.
25.Which caused the use of atomic bombs in Japan
A. The North Korea defeated the South Korea.
B. Chinese troops intervened in the Korean War.
C. US President Harry Truman failed to be reelected.
D. US suffered the worst defeat in the Battle of Bataan.
26.Which can be the best key word of Paragraph 3
A. Climates. B. Sceneries. C. Causes. D. Geographies.
27.What makes the cruelty of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir
A. The bravery of Chinese troops. B. America’s advanced weapons.
C. The freezing cold weather. D. The rough waters of the lake.

Are children becoming addicted to the Internet
Children are becoming addicted to the Internet and for many it is one drug that can’t be beaten. Not all children, but an alarming number of them are being swept up in this age of digital information.
Websites like MySpace,YouTube and Face-book,are becoming so popular that many kids can’t help being addicted to them just in order to fit. Why not become part of a society where you judge by how many friends on a friend list What has become of the world, when instead of calling your best friend on the phone you send them a message electronically and wait around for hours to see if they get on and read it Often on the web there just aren’t enough adults setting kids straight and too many teenagers are causing trouble.
However,it is biased to claim all kids are addicted,or even that all kids who are addicted to the web are negatively affected by it. While the web can be a large waste pool of negative influence,it is also a wealth of positive knowledge, friendly social networking, and even gateways to future employment. Perhaps it is not so important whether or not a child is addicted to the web and more important that parents know exactly what the kids are doing there.
Many computers have optional parent controls that allow parents to block the children from entering certain types of sites,or even individual ones. Such programs are unfortunately not used enough by today’s parents, who in many cases are caught up on computers themselves. All one needs to do is google search parental controls and you will be provided with any number of companies that can help with programs for tracing child activities and,if necessary, limit time spent on the Internet.
28.What is the misunderstanding of the passage
A. Today’s kids are becoming addicted to the Internet at an alarming rate.
B. Many parents aren’t skilled enough at the computer.
C. Many children are addicted because of the fashion.
D. All of the kids are negatively affected by surfing the Internet.
29.What can we know from Paragraph 2
A. YouTube and Facebook are so popular but the kids won’t be addicted.
B. There are many adults teaching kids how to behave on the websites.
C. The young can’t resist the attraction of some websites.
D. The young prefer calling friends to sending them a message on some websites.
30.What may the author agree according to the passage
A. All of the kids are addicted to the Internet.
B. All of the websites are dangerous for the kids.
C. We should keep the kids away from the Internet.
D. The kids can also benefit from the Internet.
31.What does the underlined word “biased” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. One-sided. B. Reasonable. C. True. D. Objective.
D

Food is not just something that supports life, but tells us stories about who we are, what we value, and how we establish relationships. 36
Food and cultural identity are closely tied. The preparation and presentation of the traditional Japanese dishes like sushi are considered an art form. 37 Similarly, the use of spices in Indian cuisine reflects the country’s rich agricultural heritage and diverse regional flavors.Through food, individuals not only nourish their bodies but also nurture a deep connection to their cultural roots, cultivating a sense of identity and belonging.
38 A typical Italian child can name twenty-two different kinds of pasta, while a child in Canada might know three to four different kinds. But it’s not just the vocabulary that matters. 39 When people are asked what comes to mind when thinking of fried eggs, the French say “breakfast” while Americans say “cholesterol(胆固醇)”.The French prize the dining experience whereas Americans lay an emphasis on what is entering the bloodstream.
Food consumed by one person alone is not a social food. However, when consumed by a group of people together or eaten in a religious ceremony,it brings people together socially. In human society, food is a means for people to establish relationships between one another. 40 For instance,in the Spring Festival in China, people eat dumplings to express the relationship between themselves and deities.
In an increasingly interconnected world shaped by globalization, food not only helps preserve our culture but bridges cultural gaps, promoting understanding and appreciation across borders.
A. It offers us different perspectives to know about our culture.
B. Tradition is a word frequently referred to in their dictionary.
C. This bond can exist among individuals and religious groups.
D. A culture’s food vocabulary is also a window into its values.
E. They mirror people’s culturally rooted respect for artistic value.

Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks(盯着他们).
One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes . Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners ,determined to finish third . Ali looked up and saw the other boys rushing ahead. Refusing to give up at this point, he jumped to his feet and ran as fast as he could. He dashed across the finishing line and won the fourth prize. Thinking he would let her sister down, Ali couldn’t help sobbing. Just then he suddenly heard the announcement from the broadcast that he won the third prize as the runner who collided with Ali was disqualified for breaking the rule. Nervous and anxious, Zahra wondered whether her brother had brought her what she was expecting.“Zahra, see what I have got for you.” Ali said excitedly, taking the prize out of his bag with his trembling hands.
