There is no doubt that technology has had a big influence on our lives. People from all around the world can now talk to each other almost at once on mobile phones and the internet. People can easily solve their problems with the help of computers and the World Wide Web. With this technology, it seems that the world is more connected now than ever before. Even so, there have been worries about technology making people feel lonely and disconnected from others around them.
So does this mean that technology makes us lonely
In my opinion, it is hard to say yes or no.
It's true that humans need communication with each other. If we depend on technology too much to communicate, this can badly impact our mental (心理的) health. For me, technology is a tool. And just like any other kind of tool—like scissors, a pencil or a ruler, for example, it depends on how we use it; in a right way or in a right place. Take social media (社交媒体) as an example. If you only use it to compare yourself with others, you might feel sad and lonely. But if you use it as a tool to connect with friends and families or to start a new community to talk about your hobbies and interests, the loneliness will turn into love and friendship.
When you feel lonely after staring at your computer screen all day, maybe you can use that technology to reach out to a reliable (可靠的) friend and invite him or her out for lunch or a coffee.
31.According to the writer, technology is __________.
A.a tool B.an influence
C.a pair of scissors D.a way of communication
32.What's the meaning of the underlined word “impact” in Paragraph 4
A.Damage. B.Improve. C.Influence. D.Enter.
33.According to the passage, if people use technology too much, people may __________.
A.sleep less B.live longer C.feel lonely D.get more jobs
34.When we use technology to __________ others, we can find love and friendship.
A.argue with B.compete with C.connect with D.compare with
35.What's the main idea of the passage
A.Social media is important to us. B.Technology can be good and bad for us.
C.People need to communicate with each other. D.Computers and the internet help us with our work.
【答案】31.A 32.C 33.C 34.C 35.B

_______________ A town in Finland has begun using the world’s largest “sand battery” to help provide heat. The unusual method of storing energy allows the town to create heat when electricity prices are cheap, and store it for long periods of time. A sand battery works because sand can be heated to very high temperatures. In a well-insulated (绝缘的) container, sand can hold this heat for a long time. A New Method (方法) To Count Turtles Scientists from the University of Florida have recently developed a more accurate method of counting the Giant South American River turtles. Dr. Brack points out that it is important for protecting them. Without the method, it’s difficult to know if the numbers are going up or down. The scientists plan to keep working to improve the method. They believe the method could be used to count other kinds of animals, too. Scientists Create World’s Tiniest Violin Scientists at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom have created “the world’s smallest violin”. The tiny violin, made of a metal called platinum, measures just 35 microns (微米) long and 13 microns wide. This means that the violin is even thinner than a human hair, so it can only be seen with a powerful microscope.
Recently, a painting with AI technology has won first prize at the Colorado State Fair’s fine arts competition (比赛).
Jason Allen made the winning work. He is not an artist but a computer programmer. As one of the 11 “artists” in this competition, he used Midjourney to make the painting. This is the first AI painting to win such a prize, and other artists aren’t happy about it. Some believe that Allen cheated (欺骗), and others think his win is unfair. Many artists made their art in more traditional ways.
But Allen said he was not sorry for anything because he didn’t break any rules. He never tried to hide (隐藏) the fact that he used AI to make the painting.
Although he used AI to make art, it wasn’t so easy. He made over 900 paintings and finally chose 3. In total, he spent over 80 hours working on them, using different words and phrases to make different parts of the paintings.
“We don’t need to question the AI technology or the people behind it. Instead, we need to realize that it’s a great tool (工具), and that we should make good use of it so that we can all move forward.” Allen said.
36.What does Jason Allen do
A.An artist. B.A painter.
C.A computer programmer. D.A scientist.
37.What can we know about the winning work
A.It was created in a traditional way. B.It was made by AI, not by humans.
C.It is welcome among other artists. D.It is the first AI painting in the world.
38.How long did Allen spend working on the paintings
A.Over 80 hours. B.Less than 70 hours.
C.Over 100 hours. D.Only 3 hours.
39.How did Jason Allen make the painting
①He chose three of the paintings to get in the competition.
②He used different words to make parts of the paintings.
③He made more than nine hundred paintings in all.
A.①②③ B.②①③ C.③①② D.②③①
40.According to the passage, what is Allen’s opinion about AI
A.People shouldn’t use AI to cheat in the art competition.
B.It’s not good for artists to use AI to make paintings.
C.It’s a great tool if people use it in a good way.
D.He feels unhappy about it because it breaks many rules.
The tiny violin wasn’t designed to be played, but to test new technology for building extremely small things.
