Chemistry is usually thought to be more difficult than other subjects, at least for the beginner. There are some reasons for this idea. For one thing, chemistry has a very specialized vocabulary (专业语汇). At first, studying chemistry is like learning a new language. Also, some concepts (概念) of chemistry are hard to understand. However, with hard work and careful study, you can finish this subject successfully and even enjoy it. Here are some suggestions to help you develop good study habits and better understand the topics in the book.
Firstly, attend classes on time. Listen to your teacher and take careful notes in class. If possible, always review the topics you learn in class, and review your notes on the same day.
Secondly, think carefully whether you really understand the meaning of a term or the use of an equation (方程式). A good way to test your understanding is to explain a concept to a classmate or someone else.
Thirdly, pay attention to things which have something to do with chemistry in life. Watch or do experiments in class carefully.
Fourthly, question often and do not be afraid to ask your teacher or classmates for help.
You will find that chemistry is much more than numbers, formulas (化学式) and equations. It’s often used in daily life just like math and physics. Once you fall in love with it, you’ll get lots of fun.

Have you ever imagined two tigers reading e-books or dolphins playing soccer underwater With Sora, these funny ideas can become videos in seconds!
Sora is a powerful AI video tool created by OpenAI, the same company behind ChatGPT. Sora wasn’t open to the public at first, but OpenAI invited some experts and artists to test it for problems. Now we can use Sora to turn text descriptions into videos. If you type some key words like “robots dancing on Mars,” Sora will create a lively video about it. Unlike older AI models, Sora’s videos are more creative and longer. In 2024, the videos lasted only one to two minutes. This year, they may be as long as five minutes.
However, Sora isn’t perfect yet. Sora can’t tell left or right. In a video on the OpenAI website, a man is running on the playground in the opposite direction. What’s worse, Sora’s videos look so real that some people might misuse (误用) them, so some experts say, “Always double-check AI videos—they are creative but not always true.” At the same time, some people are worried that wrong information in the videos is the biggest risk the world faces. To solve this, OpenAI is adding watermarks to Sora’s videos, helping users of Sora find out whether the information is true or not.
In a word, as Sora improves, we get to know that Sora is a tool, not the answer to everything. We need proper rules and correct ways to use it. The future of Sora is exciting, but it’s up to us to shape it.

Dear Tom,
I’m sorry to hear that you have problems in learning Chinese. For memorizing words, I suggest using flashcards and learning them with example sentences. Try to review the words every day.
To improve pronunciation, listening to Chinese songs or watching cartoons is helpful. Just try to repeat after the speakers. For writing, keeping a short diary in Chinese every day is a good idea. Start with simple sentences.
Remember, don’t give up. Practice a little every day and you will get better!
I hope these can help you.
Yours,
Wang Mei
