Cinder the Store Cat
The most loved “worker” at a local store isn’t a girl or a boy—it’s a cute cat named Cinder! Let’s hear her story.
A while ago, the store had a mouse problem. Mice came in with the birdseed, so a shop clerk brought his cat Lewis to help. Lewis was great at catching mice. What’s more, he made everyone happy—clerks smiled more, and customers loved seeing him. Soon, Lewis became a part of the store.
But when his owner retired (退休), Lewis left too. The store team knew they needed another cat friend, so they saved Cinder from an animal shelter. Sometimes, they called her Cinderella.
Cinder isn’t a shy house cat. The store gives her just the right mix of safety and freedom. She walks around to greet customers, lies on the counter to take naps, and even plays under shopping carts. But if she wants to be alone, she’ll quietly walk away. To keep her safe, the team put a tracker in her collar (项圈). They also hung signs to tell visitors there’s a cat around.
Cinder has many fans. For them, looking for Cinder is the first thing to do when they enter the store. They hope she’ll say “hi” before they start shopping. Some people even stop by just to pet her—they don’t need to buy anything at all!

Billy Harris had no home. He spent each day sitting on the streets, asking people for money or food. Every day as he sat, he heard the sound of a coin or two dropping into his cup. One day, the noise was louder than usual. That was made by a young lady. Billy didn’t pay attention to it at first. But later when he looked into the cup, he saw a gold ring. The first idea that appeared in Billy’s mind was to go to the gold market and that was what he did. To his surprise, he was offered one thousand dollars. Billy thought long and hard. Was this a mistake He thought about his grandfather, who always tried to do the right thing. Finally, he made his decision. He’d keep the ring and maybe one day its owner would return. Two days later, a young woman came to him and asked if he’d found anything unusual in his cup. Billy took out the ring from his pocket. When he saw the smile on the woman’s face, he knew he made the right decision. She explained that when she dropped the coins into his cup, she had forgotten putting her ring in the wallet.
