J.R.R.Tolkien (1892-1973) was an English writer, poet and university professor, best known as the author of some of the world’s most popular high-fantasy novels. With his limitless imagination, he created new worlds for his readers to explore. His novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings have been made into films.

The Hobbit
The Hobbit is a children’s fantasy novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. It was published on 21 September 1937. The book remains popular and is recognized as a classic in children’s literature. Personal growth and forms of heroism are central themes of the story. The work has many adaptions for stage, screen, radio, board games and video games.
The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The story began as a sequel to The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work. Written in stages between 1937 and 1949, and published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955, The Lord of the Rings is one of the best-selling novels ever written, with over 150 million copies sold.
Letters from Father Christmas
Letters from Father Christmas is a collection of letters written and illustrated by J.R.R. Tolkien. After the birth of his firstborn son, Tolkien began to write his children letters from Father Christmas. Edited by Baillie Tolkien, the second wife of his youngest son, the letters were released on 2 September 1976, the third anniversary of Tolkien's death. The book was warmly received by critics. The stories are about the adventures and misadventures of Father Christmas and his helpers, including the North Polar Bear and his two cubs.

Other works
Several shorter works by Tolkien appeared during his lifetime. These included a mock-medieval story, Farmer Giles of Ham (1949); The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from the Red Book (1962), poetry related to The Lord of the Rings; Tree and Leaf (1964), with the seminal lecture “On Fairy-Stories” and the tale “Leaf by Niggle”; and the fantasy Smith of Wootton Major (1967).
