In China, tea is one of the seven most important things for daily life, along with firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, and vinegar. Today, tea is not just a Chinese tradition—it has become a special part of culture shared by people all over the world.
On Nov. 29, Chinese traditional tea processing skills and their related social practices were added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) list. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea.
More importantly, China’s tea culture has formed Chinese customs. It is the Chinese traditional custom that a host should welcome visiting guests with boiled tea. A poem by Song poet Du Lei reads, “I offer tea, not wine to a guest on a cold night. When water boils on the stove, fire burns with flame bright.”
Boiling tea is one of China’s oldest ways to make tea. It started in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). People would boil tea leaves for a long time, sometimes even mixing them with herbs or fruits. This slow process let them enjoy peaceful moments. Later, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), a faster method became popular—steeping (冲泡). This meant people just poured hot water over tea leaves—and waited a few minutes, making tea easier to prepare.
▲ On the app Xiaohongshu, or Little Red Book, there are over 40,000 posts on the topic of “stove-boiled tea” (围炉煮茶). They lightly roast tea leaves before boiling them in a teapot on a stove. People sit around the stove in a natural setting and have snacks with their hot tea. Some also wear traditional hanfu as if it could take them back to those ancient times. Through “stove-boiled tea”, people can taste a slower life and find a sense of calm. According to a Xiaohongshu post, “It is very relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the fall breeze, and chat with best friends.”
23.What does the writer want to tell us through Du Lei’s poem
A.It was very cold in winter. B.Tea was easier to boil than wine.
C.Tea was less expensive than wine. D.It was a custom to welcome friends with tea.
24.Why did the steeping method become popular during the Ming Dynasty
A.It is one of China’s oldest ways to make tea. B.It was quicker and easier to prepare.
C.It provided better health benefits. D.It required special herbs and fruits.
25.Which sentence is the most suitable for the blank ▲ in the last paragraph
A.Let’s try the old method of boiling tea in spare time.
B.These days, people are using the old methods again.
C.Chinese invented many different ways of drinking tea.
D.Therefore, it is a good choice to drink tea with friends.
26.What’s the writer’s purpose of this passage
A.To call on people to learn more about Chinese traditional tea.
B.To invite more and more people around the world to visit China.
C.To introduce a popular way of making tea, “stove-boiled tea”.
D.To show how popular and interesting the app Xiaohongshu is.

________
According to scientist Daniel from Canada, a special machine will be able to “read” animals’ feelings and thoughts. It could first work with primates (灵长类动物), then the other animals. If you’re tired, you’d better not stay up late. Sleep is lovely——enjoy it!
First, have a fixed bedtime. It makes you feel calm if everything is in order before you sleep. So brush your teeth, wash your face, open the window and go to bed.
Second, go to bed when you’re tired. If you’re feeling really tired, go to bed. Don’t stay up to watch a late show, don’t try to do a bit more work, and don’t plan to stay at your friend’s place too late. Go to bed.
Next, say yes to milk. If you want a bedtime snack, have something that makes you calming and sleepy. A glass of warm milk will help to sleep better. And try not to eat a big meal too close to bedtime, which keeps you awake.
Finally, turn off the TV. TV programs make you excited. Don’t watch anything for an hour before you go to bed. Listen to some relaxing music instead! It will send you to sleep in no time at all.
All the tips above are for a good night’s sleep. Your body’s going to thank you very much for it.
