Lena, a 62-year-old woman living in a quiet Canadian town, found an old guitar in the attic (阁楼) last week. She was sorting old photos and childhood toys when her hand touched the cool wood, and the familiar shape brought a big smile. The guitar’s wooden body was grey, and its strings (弦) were broken, but it brought back a flood of warm old stories.
When Lena was 7, her father often taught her to play the guitar by their lakeside house. One summer evening, he asked her to play Happy Birthday for her little brother Max. Max laughed and cheered even when she messed up notes. “Music makes every moment special,” Dad would say, smiling as Lena struggled with the music notes. Neighbors passed by to listen and sang along, while her dog Buddy moved his tail happily and touched her hand softly. That year, her father gave her the guitar as a New Year gift, telling her to record moments with the family by using music. Lena spent hours practicing every day under the big tree in the park near her home, her dog Buddy lying at her feet.
Now, so many years later, Lena softly cleaned the guitar. She replaced the strings and tried to play the old song — her fingers hurt a little, but the song felt like a hug from the past. Though her fingers were not as quick as before and her voice was a bit shaky, the same happiness filled her heart. Looking in the mirror, she saw grey hair, but her eyes shone just like they did by the lake.
“Some things never change,” Lena said softly, touching the guitar’s old neck. She missed her father, but the guitar made her feel close. The guitar looks old, but in her mind, she was still that 7-year-old girl, laughing under the sunset with her family. Age may make us look older, but the music in our hearts remains as young as ever.
24.What made Lena think of the old stories
A.Her dog Buddy. B.The discovered guitar.
C.The lakeside house. D.The old photos.
25.Why did Lena’s father teach her to play the guitar
A.To gift her on New Year. B.To value family time.
C.To spread music to neighbors. D.To celebrate Max’s birthday.
26.How did Lena feel when playing the old song years later
A.Sad. B.Proud. C.Regretful. D.Joyful.
27.What does the text want to tell us
A.Old things need care. B.Practice makes perfect.
C.Music keeps us young at heart. D.Music comes from daily life.

Saturn (土星) is famous for the beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Scientists discovered the moons with a powerful telescope (望远镜), which is used to study stars and planets in great detail. Scientists took many photos of areas in space and put them on top of each other to make the moons appear bright enough to discover.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide — quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Many people are curious about the fact that Saturn has so many moons while Earth only has one. According to scientists, many millions of years ago, the huge planet’s gravity (引力) attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered by a team of scientists led by Edward Ashton, and were recently accepted officially by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons — Jupiter is not far behind with 95. However, Dr. Ashton believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
28.Why does Saturn gain new attention
A.It is circled by beautiful rings. B.It is studied easily through a telescope.
C.Its more photos have been taken. D.Its new moons have been observed.
29.What does the underlined part “the ringed planet” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.Saturn. B.Titan. C.Moon. D.Earth.
30.What does paragraph 4 mainly discuss about Saturn
A.Where it came from. B.How its moons orbit it.
C.Why it has so many moons. D.When its rings were formed.
31.What do Dr. Ashton’s words mean
A.Current technology needs improvement. B.Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn.
C.He is satisfied with his team’s work. D.Saturn’s new moons will appear soon.

A new United Nations (UN) report says one-fifth of the world's migratory (迁徙的) animals are at risk of disappearing. Animals that migrate move from one area to another at different times of the year.
The threats (威胁) the animals face include habitat loss, illegal hunting, pollution and natural disasters. Many kinds of migratory animals, including songbirds, sea turtles, whales, sharks and others, move to different environments as the seasons change.
The UN report says about 44 percent of migratory species around the world are decreasing in population. In addition, about one in five of 1,200 species watched by the UN are at risk of becoming endangered, or completely disappearing.
These are species that move around the globe. They move to feed and breed and also need sites to stop along the way. Any habitat loss or other threats during their trips can make the animal populations fall. “Migration is important to some species. If you cut the migration, you’re going to kill the species,” said an expert.
The researchers examined existing data, including information from the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. The list identifies wildlife across the world facing threats at present.
The report was presented at a meeting of the UN’s Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Attendees of the gathering are examining suggestions for conservation measures. They are also working to identify new species of concern. Susan Lieberman is vice president of the international policy at the Wildlife Conservation Society, a non-governmental organization . She said, “One country alone cannot save any of these species. ”
32.What does the UN report mainly show
A.Most animals are disappearing. B.Migratory species are increasing.
C.Migratory animals face some threats. D.Most species face some natural disasters.
33.What does migration mean to some species according to the expert in Paragraph 4
A.Losing their competitors. B.A matter of life and death.
C.A lack of food and movement. D.Destroying their habitats.
34.What can we infer from Susan Lieberman's words in Paragraph 6
A.It is difficult to identify migratory animals.
B.It is impossible to protect migratory animals.
C.Rescuing migratory species depends on policies.
D.Rescuing migratory species requires global efforts.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Human Activities Are Affecting Wildlife
B.International Meetings Push Animal Protection
C.Some Migratory Animals Are at Risk of Extinction
D.Many More Animals Are Regarded as Endangered Species

Our school had a “Grow Your Own Tomatoes” competition. Students worked in pairs, and the rule was clear: We must grow tomatoes from seeds (种子). The winner would get a small gold cup. Mr. Lee, the principal (校长), said, “This competition isn’t just about having the best tomatoes. It’s about learning to wait and work hard.” But Tod, my partner, wanted to win so much. “Growing from seeds takes months,” he said worriedly. “What if our seeds don’t grow well ”
I thought for a long time. I knew Mr. Lee was right, but Tod’s idea sounded good to think about. “Let’s buy young tomato plants from the market,” he said. “Everyone will be busy with their own plants. No one will know our tomatoes didn’t start from seeds,” he said again. I felt nervous, but I also wanted to win.
That weekend, we went to the market quietly. The seller gave us three strong young tomato plants. We carried them in a bag, afraid someone from school would see us. We planted them in our school garden. Though we didn’t water them every day, they grew fast. Soon, big green leaves grew out, and red tomatoes came out.
Two months later, the competition ended. Our tomatoes were bright red, big and round, so we won the first prize! We stood on the stage, holding the small gold cup proudly, while the principal praised us for our “hard work”.
But when Tod and I walked back to class, we passed Class 5’s garden. Their tomato plants were smaller, with only a few small tomatoes, but they looked healthy. We saw two boys from Class 5carefully tying the plants to small sticks to keep them straight. They talked to their teacher loudly. “We planted seeds on March 15th,” they said. “Every morning, we came to water them. Some days, the soil was dry, so we watered them again in the evening.” The teacher smiled and said, “You did a great job. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t win the award this time.”

The principal listened patiently and then said, “I’m proud of you two for telling me the truth. A prize won by cheating never brings real joy.” We returned the gold cup, and a heavy weight lifted from our hearts. The competition taught us that the real success isn’t about winning first place, but about choosing what’s right even when no one is watching.参考答案
