“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a Senior One student. Then he continued telling me that senior school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day. The subjects were much more difficult than those of junior school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However, I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.
The teachers gave excellent lessons in their own special way. They talked with me in a natural and fair way, as if I was an adult. All of them are so knowledgeable (学识渊博) and they not only explained the contents of textbooks but also provided extra information from other sources. Every word they said in classes made me so excited and interested that I had a strong desire to take in as much as I could.
In fact, my playful days were not over at all in senior school. There were many kinds of activities I could take part in. For example, sports meetings, the art festival, English corner, outing and so on. Best of all, generally, students organized the activities rather than teachers. Through this process, I improved my leadership abilities and communication skills. I’ve become mature (成熟的). I am not a kid any more.
Now if anyone asks me: “Through your process of growing up, which part is most impressive up till now ” Well, the answer will absolutely be my “senior high school life”.
24.How did the writer feel when he started his senior high school
A.Very excited. B.A little worried.
C.Quite relaxed. D.Embarrassed.
25.What was the writer’s general impression of his teachers
A.Strict and organized. B.Modest and hardworking.
C.Learned and easy going. D.Helpful and kind-hearted.
26.What has the writer learned by joining in different after-class activities
A.Reading and writing skills. B.The understanding of textbooks.
C.Leadership and social skills. D.Doing housework.
27.What can you learn from the last paragraph
A.His senior school life is the most memorable.
B.Senior school life was boring and tiring.
C.He will no longer believe in his brother.
D.The writer did well in all his subjects.

Global warming does more than just kill plant species — it also changes the way plants grow. Researchers at Martin Luther University Halle — Wittenberg(MLU) joined forces with the Leibniz Institute for Plant Biochemistry(IPB) to discover the molecular (分子) process of plant growth. In Current Biology, a scientific journal, they presented their findings on high-temperature plant growth. This could lead to developing plants that can survive global warming.
Plants react to even small temperature changes, but they are unable to move to new locations. “When temperatures rise, plants grow taller ... to cool themselves off. Their stems become taller, and their leaves become narrower and grow farther apart. Yet, this makes the plant more unstable overall,” explains Professor Marcel Quint, an agricultural scientist at MLU. Unstable plants bend faster in the rain and produce less food that’s also less nutritious.(营养的)
There’s still lots to learn about plant reactions to temperatures. “We are just starting to understand how plants feel the changes in temperature ...,” Quint says. Earlier studies have shown that the protein (蛋白质) PIF4 directly controls plant growth and is also dependent on temperature. When it’s cold, PIF4 is less active, meaning the plant doesn’t grow. At higher temperatures, PIF4 activates growth-promoting genes, and the plant grows taller. This is new information, says Quint.
To understand it, they studied the growth of thale cress seedlings (拟南芥幼苗). Normally, its seedlings form short stems(茎)at 20℃. These stems become much longer at 28℃. They discovered a hormone (荷尔蒙) that activates the PIF4 at high temperatures, thus producing the protein.
The findings may help to develop plants that remain stable even at high temperatures and produce many crops.
28.Why did the researchers at MLU and IPB perform their research
A.To study the bad effects of global warming.
B.To find out how plants help reduce global warming.
C.To pay attention to how global warming influences plant growth.
D.To understand the ways that plants cause global warming.
29.What can we learn from Paragraph 2
A.Low temperatures have little effect on plants.
B.Plants prefer dry weather to rainy weather.
C.Plants are very sensitive to change in soil.
D.High temperatures reduce crop production.
30.What do we know about PIF4
A.It mainly lies in thale cress seedlings.
B.It works differently at different temperatures.
C.It is a kind of gene that controls plant growth.
D.It is a plant hormone that works at high temperatures.
31.Who will probably benefit most from the findings
A.Farmers B.Teachers. C.Researchers. D.Environmentalists.

Scientists at the University of Massachusetts(UMass) announced recently that they have worked out how to design a biofilm (生物膜) that collects the energy in evaporation (蒸发) and changes it to electricity. This biofilm, which was announced in Nature, has the ability to change the world of wearable electronics, powering everything from personal medical sensors (感应器) to personal electronics.
“This is a very impressive technology,” says Li Xiumeng, a graduate student in electrical and computer energy, “and unlike other so-called ‘green-energy’ sources, its production is absolutely green.”
That is because this biofilm—which is a sheet of bacterial cells (细菌细胞) and as thin as a sheet of paper—is produced naturally by an improved version of the bacterium Geo. Geo is known to produce electricity and has been used before in “microbial batteries” to power electrical equipment. But such batteries require that Geo be properly cared for and fed a continuous diet. By contrast, this new biofilm, which can supply as much energy as a battery of the similar size, works continuously, because it is dead. And because it is dead, it doesn’t need to be fed.
The secret behind this new biofilm is that it makes energy from the moisture (水分) on your skin. While we daily read stories about solar power (太阳能), at least 50%of the solar energy reaching the earth goes toward evaporating water. “This is a huge, undiscovered source of energy,” says Ye Xun, professor of electrical and computer engineering at UMass, and the paper’s one senior author. Since the surface of our skin is always wet with sweat, the biofilm can make use of it and change the energy locked in evaporation into enough energy to power small equipment. “Our next step is to increase the size of our film to power more smarter wearable electronics,” says Ye, and Li points out that one of the goals is to power entire electronic systems, rather than single equipment.
32.Which can biofilm do according to Paragraph 1
A.Invent wearable electronics. B.Get power from evaporation.
C.Supply energy to microbial batteries. D.Produce more electricity than before.
33.The biofilm is better than “microbial batteries” because .
A.it is relatively thinner B.it is environmentally friendly
C.it applies a rare energy source D.it decreases the cost in usage
34.What do Ye and Li think of the future of the biofilm
A.Doubtful. B.Bright. C.Unclear. D.Harmful.
35.What is the purpose of the text
A.To introduce us to a new biofilm.
B.To describe the disadvantages of the biofilm.
C.To compare the new biofilm with others.
D.To change people’s view on the new biofilm.

Do you want to be at the top of your class Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!
Pay attention to everything the teacher says. I can’t stress how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to add. 36 .
Taking notes is important. You don’t need to write down every single word your teacher says but write down what he or she writes on the blackboard, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. 37 . This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.
Don’t skip school. You will be missing out on stuff. 38 . However, you will have more work and you have missed lectures and in-class movies. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teacher won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.
Keep a good attitude towards things. 39 , then teachers will be less willing to help you with problems or offer you extra credit. The same goes for the lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. Try not to laugh when other students make a mistake.
40 . There is no shame in needing some help. If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, seek help. Ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent etc. Get a tutor if you need one.
A.Enjoy your class
B.Write in your own words
C.Always ask questions
D.It is true that you could make up the work
E.When you do poorly in your study
F.Pay attention during class, especially during lectures
G.If you have an "I don’t care about study" attitude

As our relationship changes yet again, as all relationships do, one thing is 54 . I love you, Basketball. I love everything about you and I always will. My playing days in the NBA are definitely over, but our relationship will never 55 .
Much love and respect,
Michael Jordan

Since childhood, Ellie had always been the shyest girl in her class. She preferred to stay in the background, rarely speaking up and avoiding attention at all costs. She admired those who could confidently share their thoughts, yet never believed she could be one of them.
She had a special way to show her sorrows and pleasures with her magical paintbrush. Whenever she held a paintbrush in her hand, she was lost in the world of her own creation. Animals, people and scenes were then brought to life on her canvas(画布). Her lifelike artworks won many painting awards and most of them were exhibited in her school many times.
However, things changed that summer. Her family moved to another city since her father got a promising job there. Ellie struggled to keep up with the lessons, and she sat alone in a corner of the classroom, not daring to approach any of the groups of chatting students.
One day, the class was assigned a group project in wildlife protection, and each group needed to create a poster. Ellie’s group quickly made an agreement, but she was left an unimportant role to hold the poster when her group leader — Alma gave a presentation. She wanted to contribute more, but her shyness held her back from expressing her ideas. The fear of being rejected or ignored made her keep silent.
The next day, Ellie’s schoolbag dropped on the floor, and her notebook with cute little illustrations drew students’ eyes. Everyone in the class wanted to have a look at her notebook. Alma shouted loudly, “Ellie, you can draw some wild animals on our poster.” Other members agreed, and Ellie nodded with a shy face.
A few weeks later, Ellie showed her poster to her group members, who were amazed at the running animals and gave their pure-hearted admiration.

High school subject selection is a significant decision. Here are some suggestions.
First of all, we should consider our interests. When we have a passion for a subject, we are more likely to be motivated and achieve better results. Besides, we should have a clear understanding of our talents and academic strengths. If we are good at logical thinking, science subjects may be more suitable for us. Moreover, we need to think about our future career plans and the requirements of universities, which can increase our chances of being admitted to ideal universities and majors.
In conclusion, only by having a comprehensive consideration can we make a wise choice for our own development.

Para 1:
When it was time to practice, Alma didn’t show the content of poster clearly. Ellie felt a bit disappointed but decided to take the initiative. She stepped forward and began to explain the ideas behind the drawings on the poster. Her voice was a little trembling at first, but as she got more involved in the explanation, she became more confident. She pointed out the unique features of each wild animal she drew and how they related to the theme. Alma and the other group members listened attentively, and their surprised expressions turned into admiration.
Para 2:
As the presentation began, Ellie took a deep breath and began to speak. She introduced the poster with passion, explaining how she tried to convey the beauty and importance of wild animals through her drawings. This time, she didn’t stutter or avoid eye contact. Instead, she made eye-contact with her classmates, who were all attracted by her words. Her once-hidden talent was finally fully shown. After the presentation, the classroom erupted into applause. Ellie felt a sense of pride and accomplishment she had never felt before. She realized that she could also shine brightly in front of others, just like those she had always admired.参考答案
