第一节(共15小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分37. 5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该选项涂黑。
A
Four of the Most Beautiful Roads in the United States
Alaska Highway, Alaska
In the early days of World War II, fears of a potential attack on the Territory of Alaska stimulated military officials to create the Alaska Highway.
Eagle-eyed motorists may spot caribou, moose and grizzly bears along the road. Those keen on eyeing bald eagles should plan a stop near the Canadian border at the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge. Its wetlands serve as a pit stop for 180 species of migratory birds, including America’s national bird, on their springtime journey towards the ice fields and glaciers at the road’s northernmost reaches.
Highway 101, California
“The 101” is a drivable California postcard, taking motorists past the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The route offers a chance to not only see some of the best that California has to offer, but also smell and taste it when the road cuts through the heart of Sonoma’s wine country. Over 400 different wineries there produce varieties of wine.
Hana Highway, Hawaii
The Hana Highway dates to the 16th century, when Native Hawaiians first paved the road with lava blocks. Today, the route is one of Maui’s greatest tourist draws, with its 617 switchbacks hiding some of the island’s best attractions. The natural pools formed by waterfalls at Waikamoi Stream are a swimmer’s dream. Locals may be driving much faster. So if you see a local person driving behind you, you should pull over as soon as you can.
Going-to-the-Sun Road, Montana
Millions of years ago, the area around Montana’s Glacier National Park was submerged under ice a mile deep. The most striking reminders of the region’s prehistoric origins are the 25 glaciers that give the park its name. The glaciers have been shrinking for decades, and more than 50 have disappeared entirely since the mid-1800s. Visitors may be flocking to Glacier to see these natural wonders before they vanish.

On a bright July day in the Nangili, Kenya, the kids from the village gathered at Blessed Children's Home, a shelter for 11 orphans, to kick around a soccer ball made from waste plastic bags tied tightly together with rope.
Blessed Children’s Home has no running water, television or social media. They live on a diet mostly consisting of rice and vegetables. For drinking water, they use collected rainwater and water drawn from a hand-dug unfiltered well. The living conditions were tough for my 15-year-old brother Caleb and me to get used to, but we quickly came to understand that these kids in Nangili have something that many American kids lack. They have friendships resulting from the sufferings they have experienced together, and they have learned to enjoy the simple things in life.
Caleb and I are runners on the Farmingdale High School cross-country track team, and we went to Kenya to train at the High Altitude Training Centre in Iten. The training we received from Kenya’s world-class runners was excellent, but our most memorable experiences in Kenya were with the orphans at Blessed Children’s Home.
When we arrived there, the children welcomed us warmly. Although Nangili is a very poor village with few resources, its children find joy in playing card games and soccer. We spent many hours a day with them, laughing, running, competing, and playing.
Although I missed Farmingdale when I was in Kenya, I gained a new appreciation for all the things we have here. Now I will try to live a life that is more thankful and more focused on people than on things. I want to study business in college so I can help set up social enterprises in Africa that would give opportunities to kids like the orphans I met. They have taught me more than I ever imagined. I realize now that I can learn the deepest life lessons from people with whom I might have thought I had little in common. I look forward to returning to Nangili to play with them again.
24.What does Blessed Children’s Home do
A.It helps poor children survive.
B.It shares children’s stories in Kenya.
C.It fights for children’s rights in Kenya.
D.It takes care of children who don’t have parents.
25.What can we learn about the kids in Nangili from paragraph 2
A.They are on a diet.
B.They lead a simple but happy life.
C.They have friendships with American kids.
D.They are unable to adapt to the living conditions.
26.Why did Caleb and the author go to Kenya
A.To receive training. B.To do sightseeing.
C.To study Kenya’s history. D.To teach in a children’s home.
27.What does the author mainly want to tell us
A.Children like playing card games and soccer.
B.Nangili is a very poor village with few resources.
C.We should be grateful for what we have and the people around us.
D.It is wise to make friends with people having little in common with us.

About 50 years ago, workers found the remains of a large ship (24 meters long) in the sea near Quanzhou, Fujian Province. Scientists believe it was a cargo (货物) ship from China’s Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
Judging from the ship’s design and the objects found on it, it is suggested that the ship was full of goods (商品) and sailing back to Quanzhou. Long ago, Quanzhou was a very busy port. Ships like this one sailed many times between China and other countries. If you visit Quanzhou, the historic city in southern Fujian, you can explore many old traditions and activities. Some have existed for hundreds of years. Others show how Quanzhou was an important link between East and West and still is.
Right now, until October 7th, an exhibition called the “Ship of Peace” is happening in Beijing at the Fujian Plaza. It tells the story of Quanzhou’s history and rich culture. Quanzhou was a major center for sea trade between the 10th and 14th centuries. Because of this amazing history, UNESCO added Quanzhou to its World Heritage List in 2021, calling it the “business center of the World in Song-Yuan China”.
At the exhibition, visitors can see different-sized model ships that present how boats were built in ancient China. Visitors can also see Dehua white porcelain (德化白瓷), which is famous in the West as “Blanc de Chine” (meaning “Chinese White”). This delicate pottery was made by craftsmen in Fujian’s Dehua town and was highly valued internationally. Besides, there are also traditional crafts and photographs. They show Quanzhou’s living culture and traditions.
28.What do we know about the Quanzhou ship
A.It was a cargo ship filled with goods.
B.It was a ship sailing to other countries.
C.It was a large ship about 24 meters wide.
D.It was an old ship found on an island.
29.Where is the exhibition “Ship of Peace” being held
A.In the sea near Beijing. B.In the sea near Quanzhou.
C.At the plaza in Quanzhou. D.At the plaza in Beijing.
30.Why was Quanzhou added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2021
A.For its importance in sea trade. B.For its old buildings.
C.For the successful exhibition. D.For the amazing sea.
31.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A.Ways of ancient shipbuilding. B.Things in the exhibition.
C.Living culture and traditions. D.Dehua white porcelain.

A recent experiment on China’s space station showed that it’s possible to have closed aquatic (水生的) ecosystems in space. In this experiment, zebrafish, a small fish, successfully completed their life cycle from growth to reproduction in 43 days.
On April 25th, four zebrafish, along with four grams of aquatic plants and three Chinese astronauts, were sent into space on the Shenzhou-18 spacecraft. The goal was to create a closed aquatic ecosystem where plants would produce oxygen through photosynthesis (光合作用) to keep the fish alive. The fish, in turn, would provide nutrients to the plants through their waste. This setup aimed to create an environment where life could be sustained without outside help.
Researchers from the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of the CAS designed the experiment. They built a fish tank with an advanced recycling system. The zebrafish food was injected into it with a syringe (注射器) to keep the ecosystem self-sufficient.
The zebrafish, which are about 3 to 5 centimeters long, laid over 300 eggs at a time. Because zebrafish share over 70% of their genes with humans, they are ideal for studying human diseases and developing new drugs. In the microgravity of the space station, the zebrafish exhibited peculiar swimming patterns, including upside-down and spinning. These observations helped researchers understand how vertebrates (脊椎动物) adapt to space conditions.
This experiment laid the foundation for future research in aquatic biology and space medicine. It also opened the door to sending more vertebrates into space to study their long-term effects. The water samples collected by the astronauts were brought back to Earth and stored in ultra-low temperature cases for further analysis.
The successful creation of a closed aquatic ecosystem on the space station is a big achievement for China’s space technology. It advances our understanding of life in space and provides important data and support for future missions. With over 500 labs in China working on zebrafish research, this experiment opens new possibilities in space biology and life sciences.
32.What was the main purpose of the experiment involving zebrafish
A.To see how long zebrafish can survive in space.
B.To study the effects of microgravity on human cells.
C.To create a self-sustaining aquatic ecosystem in space.
D.To test the ability of zebrafish to swim in microgravity.
33.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.The tank. B.The food. C.The system. D.The experiment.
34.What did the zebrafish exhibit in the microgravity environment
A.Rapid growth. B.Increased appetite.
C.Increased egg production. D.Abnormal swimming behaviors.
35.What can we infer about the experiment from the fifth paragraph
A.It has great significance. B.It involves extensive laboratory analysis.
C.The results have been widely applied in daily life. D.It involves cooperation among multiple countries.

Reasons Why You Need to Read More Historical Fiction
Historical fiction refers to fictional stories set in true historical contexts. This mixes the lines between reality and imagination, because it is both factual and fictional. 36 Here’s why.
It gives you an alternative perspective(思考方法)to look at the past.
It is a common belief that victors write history. Indeed, it is always victors who have had the last say in the documentation of facts. But through stories, which demand imagination and innovation, it is possible to rewrite histories from the perspective of those on the losing side. This allows unheard voices to get recognition, and unknown stories to be told. 37
It makes you more aware of the world as well as local legacies.
Because historical fiction doesn’t exist in a completely made-up world and is written instead in definite places and times, it has a context. 38 . It provides information about local as well as global histories, allowing you to better understand why certain people, communities and countries are the way they are. 39
Among various fiction types, historical fiction stands out as a highly informative category. This is due to the extensive and precise research it demands, creating an impressive experience that transports you to different eras. This, in turn, allows you to get a sense of a life and times so vastly different from yours.
It challenges your perspectives about culture.
40 By providing alternative perspectives to a known reality, it offers alternative ways of looking at people. Postcolonial (后殖民主义的) historical fiction, for instance, has long worked to challenge the idea of imperial (帝国的) superiority. Slave fiction challenges the idea of racism.
A.It makes you connect with your ancestors.
B.It offers alternative perspectives to past realities.
C.Alternative perspectives make you broad-minded.
D.It gives you a sense of a life and times before yours.
E.You should definitely invest in reading historical fiction.
F.It is this context that makes historical fiction unique and essential.
G.One social influence historical fiction has is that it challenges cultural assumptions.

Then, the system uses that information to recommend other music that is likely to help the person 45 .
Amritha’s 46 came from her lifelong passion for music. She noticed how different music types caused 47 emotional reactions as a violin player. This 48 drove her to seek an objective method to measure the relaxation when listening to different types of music. Her research found two key factors leading to relaxation: musical key and timbre (音色) — the latter being a(n) 49 discovery. “Timbre’s role surprised me,” she admitted. “It refers to the tone color of sound.” Looking ahead, Amritha plans to 50 her project by studying how different types of instruments affect bodily responses and using brain waves to 51 how people respond to music. “Understanding the brain’s role could 52 why music moves us,” she said.

In late February, the Van Heerden family’s dog Coco disappeared from their home, leaving the family, especially the young brothers sad. The two brothers had grown inseparable from Coco. They spent nights searching their neighborhood, posting “Lost Dog” posters on every street. They even left a bowl of food and a blanket (毯子) by the door each night, refusing to let hope fade entirely. At the same time, they reported their dog’s missing to the police station.
As time passed week by week, the family gradually lost their original optimism (乐观), yet their daily practice of holding onto hope remained unshaken. “We knew Coco might be gone,” Helen Van Heerden recalled, “but those small acts kept us connected to the possibility of her return. “The brothers’ dedication (奉献) — staying up late to check parks and small streets, asking neighbors for clues — proved that love can last a long time.
The good news came on a Saturday morning in mid-March. As the family packed for a weekend trip, Helen’s phone rang. Adicia Thomas, an officer from the police station, spoke in a rush, “We’ve found Coco! A woman named Joy Matodzi rescued her — she’s safe.”
Alicia Thomas told them the whole story. Weeks earlier, Joy Matodzi, an animal lover who ran a small vegetable stand, was walking home when she saw a man mistreating a trembling dog on a dirt road. When she saw its silver collar (颈圈) and its tearful eyes, she immediately knew that she must help that dog. She was sure that no pet should be treated like trash. When the man demanded $15 to free the dog, Joy paid without hesitation, and then she rushed to the police station to report it.
After Alicia Thomas detailed the story, he asked the Van Heerden family to come to the police station to bring the dog home.

The family gave up their trip and drove to the police station in high spirits. As soon as they entered the room, Coco let out an excited bark and dashed toward the brothers, who knelt down to hug her tightly. Tears of joy rolled down their cheeks as they stroked her shaggy fur, checking if she was hurt. Helen held Coco in her arms, murmuring, “We thought we’d lost you forever.” When they met Joy, the family thanked her repeatedly, offering money as a reward, but Joy refused with a smile, saying, “Anyone who loves animals would do the same.”
Inspired by what Joy did, the two brothers decided to help animals in need. They used their pocket money to buy food and water bowls, placing them in parks for stray animals. With their parents’ help, they set up a small “animal rescue corner” in their yard, where they took care of injured cats and dogs they found. They also made posters to call on neighbors to treat animals kindly. Whenever someone asked why they did this, the brothers would say proudly, “Joy saved Coco, and we want to pass on her kindness.”参考答案
