Sharon Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have for one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to do.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both anxious and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school, I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
21. What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school
A. Teachers are quite strict.
B. Students often stay up at night.
C. Teachers provide little care for students.
D. Students should make good use of their time.
22. Who mentions the importance of friends
A. David. B. Frank. C. Sharon. D. Eddie.
23. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school
A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Bored. D. Relaxed.

It may seem hard to believe, but snacking several times a day can improve your health and fitness — exercise snacking, that is. “Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to 5 or 10 minutes max — that include almost any type of movement. Think climbing stairs, walking, cycling, or dancing. Today, many studies prove these mini workouts can make a difference.
Doing 15-to 30-second exercise snacks three times daily was shown to improve cardiorespiratory (心和肺的) fitness levels and exercise abilities in inactive adults, according to a small January 2022 study published in the journal Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews.
Adults who reported they didn’t do exercise saw a 17% to 18% drop of cancer cases after they began doing just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes of intense (激烈的) physical activity daily, a July 2023 study of 22,398 people found. Their daily physical activity was done in bursts lasting less than one or two minutes. Hitting 4.5 minutes (in total) of intense physical activity each day was connected with a 31% to 32% lower risk of cancer, according to the study published in JAMA Oncology.
The advantages of movement also include brain health. Doing even a small amount of easy to hard physical activity every day lowers your risk of dementia (痴呆), according to a March study in JAMDA: The Journal of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association.
Exercise snacks are a favorite tool used by Dr. Supatra Tovar owner of Dr. Supatra Tovar & Associates. “I’m a big proponent of behavior change that starts tiny,” Tovar said. “So I like to create behaviors with my customers that are easy, achievable and doable every day of the week.”
“Your body is kind of lazy,” said Michael Betts, a personal trainer and director at Train Fitness who’s based in London. “Doing these little exercise snacks reminds your body that it does need to work to keep and improve its overall health.”

During this year’s 8-day National Day Holiday, tourists across China enjoyed a variety of cultural activities —from traditional to modern—and discovered many new travel destinations (目的地).
Items on China’s national list of intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) were popular among travelers in many places. In Lantian County, Shaanxi Province in northwest China, tourists were surprised by the art of Dawaz, which means aerial tightrope (空中钢丝)walking in the Uygur language. At the same time, in Changzhou City in east China, music festivals attracted large crowds of visitors. The local government took steps to make visitors feel comfortable: it arranged 500 coaches for long-distance travel, set up over 10,000 free parking spaces, and extended subway operation hours until 11:30 p.m.
Big cities were not the only places attracting visitors during the holiday. Travelers preferred natural scenery, less crowded spots, and cost-effective travel experiences. Data from Ctrip(携程), a major Chinese travel booking platform, showed that travel orders for small cities rose by 140% year-on-year, which was much higher than the growth rate for big cities.
Wu Sa, a leader from the Economic Research Institute, said that big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Chengdu remained popular as usual. But he also noted that many travelers were heading to new, less well-known places.
Science and space-related sites also became popular travel spots this holiday. These included the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China and the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope in Guizhou Province, southwest China. “I mainly wanted to take my child to see China’s advanced space technology and the development trend of big data, so he can understand our motherland’s advanced technology,” said a tourist named Hu Wannping.

A. Music festivals held there.
B. Aerial tightrope walking shows.
C. Celebrations of traditional cultural events.
D. Comfort services provided by the government.

How to Improve Your Focus While Studying
Many students find it difficult to focus when they are studying. With so many distractions around, like phones and noise, it’s easy to lose concentration. ____36____ Here are some simple tips that can help you focus better and make your study time more effective.
First, find a quiet and comfortable place to study. It could be a desk in your room, a library, or any place where you won’t be easily interrupted. ____37____ This means turning off the TV and putting your phone on silent mode or in another room. When you remove these distractions, your brain can pay full attention to your work.
____38____ Trying to study for hours without a break can actually make you tired and less productive. A good method is the “Pomodoro Technique”. You study for 25 minutes, and then you take a short 5-minute break. After four such sessions, you can take a longer break of 15 — 20 minutes. During your break, you can stretch, get a drink, or just relax.
Another helpful way is to set clear goals for each study session. Instead of just saying “I will study math,” tell yourself “I will finish these 10 math problems.” ____39____ It feels great to see what you have achieved, and this will keep you motivated.
Finally, make sure you get enough sleep and eat healthy food. Your brain is like an engine; it needs good fuel to run properly. If you are tired or hungry, it is much harder to concentrate. ____40____ By taking care of your body, you are also preparing your mind for successful studying.
Remember, improving your focus takes time and practice. Start with one or two of these tips, and you will slowly see a difference.
A. This will help you stay focused on your task.
B. However, there are ways to solve this problem.
C. Listening to music can help some people concentrate.
D. It is also important to take regular breaks while studying.
E. A healthy body and mind are the basics of good concentration.
F. You should also avoid things that might take your attention away.
G. Having a goal makes your study more purposeful and manageable.
