英国学子见证中国铁路变迁
Cameron Patterson, a British student, spent his childhood in China. He has seen many great changes in the country over the past 20 years, especially on trains.

At the age of 8, Patterson moved from Wales to China with his family. In the following years, he and his parents lived in a few cities. They also travelled a lot during holidays. However, travelling itself wasn’t always relaxing. When his family moved from Lianyungang to Zhanjiang, they took the old green train and spent one and a half days on the trip.
Now with the high-speed train, life becomes much easier. Long and boring trips in the past have become shorter. Also, the modern trains are more comfortable. “A coin wouldn’t move at all on the table of a fast moving train,” he said excitedly.

Patterson was glad to see these changes in China, but he also wondered how they had taken place. When he read a poem about China’s role model Jiao Yulu in 2015, he got the answer. Jiao was seriously ill at that time, but he still kept working to help people till the end of his life. Jiao devoted himself to improving people’s life. “He was really great. Patterson now works as a Confucius Institute volunteer at Lancaster University. “I’m proud to act as a bridge between the UK and China and help the two peoples know about each other’s cultures better.”

人与社会——跨文化沟通
The term “culture shock” is used to describe the anxiety(焦虑) produced when a person moves to a new environment. When you visit a new place, you are forced to meet your everyday needs, like food and language, in a totally new and different way. 1. B After all, it is you who must take steps to feel better. There are a few suggestions.
B

2. C You may feel annoyed that you are experiencing a culture shock after having prepared so long and so hard for your trip. No matter how much information you read and how well you speak English, you can’t always do everything perfectly.
An open mind helps. Try not to form an opinion about the new culture soon. You might be quick to judge the food, manners and the ways to communicate and as a result would want to do things the way you are used to. Do not think of the US culture as better or worse, just different—you will be more willing to try new things. 3. D
