Life as a 340-pound man had become unmanageable for Eric Gorey. "My entire life was an exercise in minimizing my movements. My cholesterol (胆固醇)was 400, which is the walking dead level."
The doctor recommended a whole, plant-based diet. But she also said something that shocked him. She ordered him to adopt a shelter dog and walk him twice a day for 30 minutes.
He went to the shelter with visions of the perfect dog dancing through his head, one that never barked or disobeyed commands. But the adoption coordinator brought in an obese dog with skin problems. The adoption coordinator told him they had a lot in common and that both needed to work on the same things.
Eric Gorey took the dog home and named him "Peety", and they began going on walks. At first Gorey could only take his new sidekick about 100 yards before he'd turn back, breathless and embarrassed. Their twice daily walks gradually got longer as Eric began to enjoy his walking through a neighborhood he'd never explored on foot before.
As they lost weight and grew healthier together, the pair developed a tight bond. "I decided to become the person who he thought I was. And over time really every part of my life improved,99 Eric Gorey said, "It turned on certain emotions in me I'd never before. " In less than six months, Eric quit all the medications he was taking.
Today he runs an average of five to six marathons a year. But he is quick to emphasize that his weight loss didn't come from running. Healthy eating and two walks a day with Peety did that. In March 2015, Peety died of cancer. Eric Gorey calls it “the saddest day of my life".
It has been seven years since he started his journey toward a healthier and happier life. And for other struggling with obesity, Eric offers his encouragement. "It is never too late to turn it around," he said.

One of the biggest complaints I hear from people is that their friends just aren't these for them. More than that, sometimes friends are quite rude or even mean. You can't change people, but you can surround yourself with more positive people. Here are some benefits that spending time with positive friends can provide.
With positive friends, you don't need to beg for help when you need it because chances are that they will be there for you without asking. Positive individuals want others to be happy, and will go out of their way to help you when you're feeling down. As
Dotdash
}
s
Guide to Stress states,
w
Ideal friendships provide support when you're down, fun when you're up, wisdom when you're lost.

) (
How to Lose Weight
A Story About a Lucky Dog
)
Compare that to toxic friends, who might laugh at you or even snipe at you behind your back. Negative people celebrate the downfall of others, and as a result you'll end up feeling worse about yourself or the situation you're dealing with. Friends who aren't positive will add to whatever amount of stress you are feeling.
Your positive friends will not only help you recover from negative hits you take in life, but they will also inspire you to be the best you can be. For example, perhaps you always want to be a writer. The negative people in your life will probably tell you all the reasons why you might fail and this is what has prevented you from trying. But with positive people in your life, you'll feel more comfortable sharing these types of goals because your friends will give you the emotional push you need to go after what you want in life.
You naturally attract the kinds of friends who are most like you. So if you're a downer, you'll probably find that negative people come to you. The same is true for being positive. The more you are able to maintain a positive attitude, the more like-minded people you'll attract in return.
What are your true friends like?
You can change them gradually.
They will not turn to you at any time.
They will stay with you when you're in need.
They are always polite and never waste anything.
Why does the writer mention the statement of dotdash. com\ Guide to Stress?
To emphasize the importance of friendship.
To point out everyone may meet with difficulties.
To compare the differences between success and failure.
To explain to us what ideal friendships are in reality.
By saying the underlined sentence "The same is true for being positive. , what does the writer intend to tell us?
It is true that everyone is positive in life.
If you are positive, you'll attract positive friends.
The negative people don't like the positive ones.
The positive people would like to stay with everyone.
Which of the following is conveyed in this passage?
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Friendship is loved with understanding.
Old friends can benefit you a lot.
Positive friends can benefit you a lot.

If you had to guess which direction Apple would be headed in 2019, what might you say? The company's iPhone business has been stricken because of an economic slowdown and a maturing smartphone market. It's clear Apple needs to adapt to face new realities.
Some might say the obvious answer is to lower the prices on the iPhone. Others want it to expand its services beyond Apple devices to Android and Windows.
But what's more likely to happen is this: iPhones will get even more expensive. The evidence for this is already starting to appear. A new report from The Wall Street Journal suggests Apple is going to give its entire 2020 iPhone line OLED screens(有机发光二极管屏幕) 一 the same very expensive tech currently only found in the iPhone X and XS.

This may seem surprising, but it's all of a piece with Apple's strategy: Make high profit, desirable tech, and get the rewards of creating a closed ecosystem.
So Apple wants to focus on the high-end in order to satisfy choosy customers, while also recognizing that in a mature market, people will replace smartphones less often. This means high-profit devices will be key to maintaining a healthy profit, which helps explain the shift to an all-OLED lineup. That shift also allows for more basic design updates, like curved screens or edges, that even though iPhone sales are down, sales for the Apple Watch and iPad are up. For the future, Apple will continue to put more emphasis on those categories. And looking even further out, it is almost certain that Apple will enter new sectors.
(
What can we know about OLED screens?
A. They haven't been used by Apple.
C. They will let Apple save cost. What does Apple think of market?
A. It's not fully mature.
C. It needs many design updates.
)Apple has made some mistake policies in recent years. But the company is not down and out. Far from it: By focusing on high-end, high-profit tech, plus services? all while keeping an eye to the future, Apple will likely keep its dominant position for many years to come.

French radio stations are angry about a possible new government rule. DJs are already unhappy because they have to make sure that 40 percent of the songs they play are in French. Radio bosses say the new rule will make French people switch to music stream services instead of listening to the radio to listen to American or British songs. France says the new law is to protect its culture from American and British influences. It wants to stop the English language from getting deeper into French culture. The French music industry says the new law is necessary for the French language and French music. French musicians say the law is important to protect French musicians. One musician said, "It remains important for French artists to have the chance of making a career out of music."
